    Hey all,

Thought I would post my Lenovo ordering experience for any future questions. I have seen countless threads of horror stories when ordering straight from Lenovo.

I chatted with Lenovo on 12-24-2013 about ordering a Y510P Ideapad. After getting a quote sent to me in email, I logged back in and placed the order around 2:00 p.m. Eastern, Christmas Eve.

My estimated ship date was 12-27-2013, estimated delivery date was 01-03-2014.

On Friday 12-27, My status was updated to "Released to Production". I was hoping it would ship as estimated, but that status never changed.

To my dismay, Sunday 12-29, I just received a UPS tracking number and a status of shipped. I didn't think they shipped on Sundays, or even worked for that matter, but there you go.

Now, I am posting this as I just received that shipment status. I cannot track the laptop yet, because it obviously isn't in the UPS system yet.

So all in all, it was a pretty painless experience and went very quickly, especially for the holidays. Here is to hoping that they send me a new one and not something someone has returned. I haven't read about anyone receiving something like that from Lenovo, but I have received numerous items like that off Amazon and other retailers web sites.

I will post when it arrives about the condition, etc. and post some pictures. For the record, I bought the 16gb of RAM and SLI 755M model. Model number 59405667.

Nice to hear your laptop (hopefully) arriving before the initial estimated delivery date. Did you get a discount when they sent you a quote?

Yea I did, but then as soon as Christmas was over, they dropped the price. Going to call them about that as soon as it gets here today and I have a chance to make sure everything is ok.

It was originally 1259.00 and I got it for 1209.00. Now the list is 1199.00. So they owe me about 60.00 dollars.

    So,

I have one MAJOR complaint. They stuck a shipping label on the Lenovo box (that the laptop is in) and sent it on it's way. It arrived torn up, but the laptop seems to be fine. Thankfully, they have the laptop packaged in pretty good foam inside. MORONS........I don't know why it is so hard to put the original box inside of another shipping box with peanuts or something.

First thing I did before even turning the laptop on was repaste the Ultrabay GPU. Very easy process.

There is a plastic sticker (clear) on the GPU itself and I removed that completely. I do not see any reason for that to be there and it was just holding the old thermal paste under it.

I don't have everything loaded on it yet, but so far it is doing fantastic. This screen rivals my Alienware 18 with the IPS. The NICEST screen I have seen on a laptop. It is the matte screen, but it looks glossy when it is on. Very nice.

Keyboard is again, one of the nicest I have typed on. The trackpad that everyone complains about, works flawlessly.

Mine was manufactured in November 2013.

The speakers are excellent as well, better than my Alienware by a mile. So far, so good.

    Flawless. No issues whatsoever.

Only thing I don't like is that I cannot connect to the 5ghz band of my router. Other than that, no issues at all.

I got mine late October, and I didn't have any of the wireless problems that people were talking about (a lot) in these forums...

My wireless is pretty screwy and the signal strength is all over the place. When I'm near several other computers using the wireless I can't always maintain my connection but in my basement office, where I use it most of the time, the wireless is fine even though I'm quite a distance from the router. I have an older router though so I don't know how much that is contributing to my troubles.

It is probably the 2.4ghz band. If you ever get a 5ghz card or adapter and run that, you will notice a world of difference. So many cordless phones, microwaves, etc. use the 2.4ghz band it always interferes.

I used to lose connection on another laptop every time the microwave turned on, lol.

I see what everyone was saying now about the trackpad, it does suck. The keyboard is kind of difficult to type on as well as you miss keys sometimes.

The ultrabay is still overheating wildly and crashing every 2 minutes. So I am thinking of returning this one. I love Lenovo's and Thinkpads in general, but they need to improve a few things.

Funny how this contrasts against your initial impressions of the laptop.

Managed to play Planetside 2 for 3 hours today, with some decent (200 core 200 memory) overclocks and no signs of discomfort or overheating. Screen tearing was noticeable when the laptop went over 60FPS, to mitigate this i turned up the settings a bit. With a single card, i was able to comfortably play the game on "high" settings at 900p (native) resolution, with FPS going from a minimum of 37 in a crowded area to a maximum of 65 (however this might be caused by the frame limiter). CPU temps were good, since A) my laptop is one of the "luckier" models with no OOB throttling, B) it was undervolted C) TDP and multipliers were set a bit lower, to emulate the 4702MQ for better system thermals and stability.

After 3 hours, the game crashed for some reason, but the system didn't completely freeze up (in other words, it just returned to Windows). I don't think this is my laptop's fault since the game is just as crash-prone on my desktop.

Yea, I still like the laptop, but maybe I should have tried it out for a few days before I posted my mini review.

The screen is still top notch, it runs games great and I experience no tearing. The real only issue I have is the optibay card. Every time I enable that, it crashes the games.

I am impressed, actually very impressed, with the 755 video card. I think it runs games better than the 765 and it is on par with the 770m's I have owned. So that is the only thing that I would, and still might, not send it back for. I may and just get something that cools better, it does get pretty hot and the keyboard gets hot too.
