I recently purchased a T420 (new) from the Lenovo outlet store. I had been interested in buying a thinkpad for a while, but I refused to pay the price premiums found on the main store, so a friend suggested that I try the outlet. Initially after placing my order on 8/19, I was slightly miffed that the estimated ship date was 8/25. As I have never had an unpleasant experience with any ebayers or etailers, I didn't give it much thought.
When I checked this morning (8/24), however, the estimated ship date had disappeared. I figured that this could have been because the laptop was shipped a day early, but when I looked at the order status, it remained at "in process". I began reading some of the (admittedly old) horror stories detailing past victims' experiences with the outlet store, and it seems that that is exactly how my situation is unfolding. I checked my order status once again later today, and the estimated ship date has changed from 8/25 to 8/30. While somehow the recycle fee's ship date (why does have a ship date???) changed from 8/25 to 8/26. Should I expect to ever receive this laptop--or will this be an endless path of delayed shipments?
At this rate, I'd rather just cancel my order and get my (~$900 back)--or is cancelling an order even possible with the outlet store. The credit card payment is still pending.

my advice would be first:
seeing as we are on the cusp of the 24th to 25th wait till morning or midday of the 25th and see if the order shows as shipped
if not I would be on the phone lickety split sticking my foot up peoples asses (yes, through the phone my foot would go....) until i got answers and good ones
it is very possible though the 'system' is updating and shows 8/30 because of a glitch in the way it, well updates lol
If you are very worried and want to cancel I would do so immediately (or tomorrow if it hasn't shipped), don't know if you can though, check that, and beware of how things get cancelled properly with your bank/cc/debit card. It's much worse for a company to have your money and no product due, than for them to have it or potentially have your money and they still owe you a product.
I do know you can get the same 420 for the same price-ish or cheaper right now on sale with coupons etc. brand new and shipping from the main place, not the outlet
I can hook you up with that info if you decide to go that route
hope you get some sleep tonite
most of us don't in your predicament.....

hmmmm just read this on their site:
For secure access to your order's status, you'll need your 7-digit customer number and your 6-digit order number. These numbers are provided to you on the order success page and in an email sent after your order is placed. To check the status of your order go to www.lenovoorders.com
Orders for products that are listed as "In Stock" cannot be canceled after the order is placed. Please refer to our return policy below for additional information.
Shipping Policy
Shipping Options:
Before finalizing your purchase, you may select a delivery option for your order. Please note that some expedited delivery options may be unavailable on certain orders. Lenovo may assess a flat delivery charge for shipping and handling which will be reflected on the online checkout page prior to purchase. Lenovo does not ship to P.O. Boxes, APOs, hotels, or public mail centers. Estimated days for shipping are the time it takes for the shipping company to deliver your order. This does not include the time it takes Lenovo to process and build/prepare your order for delivery.
Standard Delivery is standard ground shipping. This delivery method generally takes between 4-6 business days after shipping, but Lenovo does not commit that orders shipped by this method will arrive on any particular date. Standard shipping excludes Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
2-3 Business Days Delivery: Your order should be received by 5:00 p.m. on the third business day after shipping.
International Shipping
Due to U.S. export restrictions and policies, the Lenovo Outlet does not ship to international addresses.
Return Policy
Lenovo will accept the return or exchange of a product in its original, sealed package for a full refund in cases of Lenovo error. Returns allowed for any other reason will be subject to a restocking fee equal to 15% of the purchase amount. All returns must be initiated within 21 days of the invoice date. Lenovo does not provide refunds or credits for portions of a packaged offering provided at a single price or for preloaded programs installed by Lenovo. For service and warranty issues, contact warranty support at 1-800-426-7378. For inquiries relating to third party (non Lenovo) products, contact the third party directly. To initiate a return, contact 1-866-428-4465 to obtain an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). Any authorized return must include the product and all accessories in the unopened original packaging, along with all documentation (including invoice, RMA and original shipping label), and must be received at the Lenovo National Return Center within 10 days of obtaining the RMA. Incomplete returns will not be accepted for any reason. Returns that do not follow these steps may be refused by Lenovo, and customer assumes risk of loss and damage for packages returned without an RMA. Please allow 8-10 business days after the item is returned for the processing of your credit.
Cancellation Policy
Orders cannot be canceled because the order fulfillment process begins shortly after the order is placed and in some cases can result in the order shipping the same day. If you do not want to keep the item you ordered you can return it after it arrives. Please refer to the return policy above for additional information.

wow, I will never be ordering through the Lenovo outlet now..... -
you might consider dell outlet
i have ordered a slew of laptops from them over the years and not one complaint
plus much much better service and policies
they ship same day or next business day
3-5 day shipping is free
etc.
dell business outlet btw
bol ! -
Lets wait and see, the shipping from Lenovo is fairly good and Lenovo have taken quite lot of trouble not to repeat these old mistakes.
-
It took less than a week to receive my x120e when I ordered it about a month ago.
-
Thanks for the feedback--I'll try to be optimistic. Well the Est. Ship Date for the recycle fee is gone: shows that someone is at least updating the pages.
My order status is still: in process though. I've never had a site process orders this slowly. -
Did you ever contact sales (not customer service) to find out what's going on.
-
My outlet order took a month to deliver.
-
Quick update: Well, it seems now that the pending charge has disappeared from the credit card--but the estimated ship date is still 8/30 @_@
-
well I ordered a t520 the other day and my cc was denied, yet the order shows still in process, hopefully it will ship !
-
-
I don't think we can even cancel our orders >_>
-
-
-
-
Well, this isn't so promising... the Est. Ship date on the T420 itself is still 8/30, but the Est. Ship date for the laptop is now 9/19!!! I'm going to call them tomorrow...
-
dood, sounds like they sold your laptop and are waiting for one just like it to come in again then they will ship, jeebus
are you telling me you ordered a laptop that was in stock in the outlet and it is taking weeks for it to ship ????? -
EDIT: This is probably the slowest "live" chat I have ever been on.
This is what the "live" chat session consisted of: (I had to wait for about 5 minutes for every response, and as I was typing the last part the Agent promptly says "have a nice day" and ignores everything after that)
-
-
Well, now the Est. Ship Date has changed to 9/19. I'm going to try everything I can to cancel.
-
I will be sticking to Dell now. Was about to spend well over a Grand on a Thinkpad but now now. Lenovo has serious issues.
I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars with Dell over the years and have always been happy with the product, delivery and service. Every single time. Hell, you can get on chat and have a keyboard sent to you overnight if you have a problem with yours. And zero issues with their chat.
After thoroughly reading all the Lenovo threads here and ALL the issues, screw the Thinkpad coolness mentality. The company sucks. And the product they put out does too. Just blind foolish consumers giving them money.....not Me.
btw, Loser, your handle should be Loser666
*joke -
i never thought people buy Thinkpads because they are cool (many people wouldn't know a 10 year old Thinkpad from a new released Thinkpad), i thought people buy them out of utilitarian mentality.

-
I doubt i can cancel after reading all the horror story's. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Visa said they can take care of the restocking fee if i send it back unopened.
-
Kumar the floor manager said if it doesent go out today then he can cancel the order. Im quite sure he played me like a fiddle and it will ship today.
-
Another update, The order was literally shipped out after i spoke with him. Its absolute chaos over there.
-
This doesn't make much sense to me either: I got a shipping confirmation email literally as I turned on my computer... but the order status page has not changed at all.
EDIT: Now order status has changed to shipped--hopefully I get that tracking number tomorrow
FINAL EDIT: It actually got here! I've looked at the tracking information, which shows that it actually shipped on 8/25--the first estimated ship date. It seems that the website is bugged and systematically increments ship dates--this is an issue with the website itself and not the outlet. -
thanks for the update
