Has anyone tried visiting the Lenovo's Student/Alumni webpage and tried to configure a Z60 (m or t) recently?

    This is the URL: https://www-03.ibm.com/lenovo/shop/personalpages/public/index.cfm?&establish_cookie=true

I've tried several configurations, but when I get to the optical drive, it says that there are "no options available." and when I try to proceed from there it won't let me go any futher because I haven't picked an optical drive.

    A nice little Catch-22.

I sent a "site feedback" e-mail, but their response was worthless. This has to be one of the worst-designed websites out there. Why not just supply a link to report a technical problem on the website? Argh!

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions . . .

I ordered my Z60m through the student/alumni site and did not have that problem. Call to place your order and the sales rep will have the options for you. The prices are the same over the phone as online.

Do you have to be an alumni of somewhere in particular?

I was just futzing around on the site, hoping I could order at a discounted rate, but because of the optical drive problem, I couldn't get far enough along to find out if there was some school-related barrier to ordering.

I also have the link for the DAC employee discount, which is not as good as the student/alumni discount, but I encountered the same problem there with the optical drive.

Oh well, I guess I doomed to pay retail.

As far as I know you have to be a student to order from that particular Education site. My sales rep at my school stated that when you place an order they will check the roster for your name. If it comes up, then the order will be processed and sent to the warehouse. If not, they will either hold your order while they investigate or send you a letter like this:

"Your order was cancelled by Credit Card Services as you account has been
flagged with pricing abuse on the [Insert School Name] student web site. This order
was placed on an [Insert School Name] Student web page and it does not appear that
you are a student at that institution."

I have tried to have my friend buy from my EDU's website and that is how I know.

They will place a hold on your credit while investigating though. He found this very inconvient because he had to wait sometime before getting it back. (Just a warning in case you don't have much credit on your card)

I asked them when I ordered and they told me they do not care if you are a student or almuni. Heck most people are highschool grads (or at least I hope so). Since it says almuni there is no way for them to trace if you went to school or which school. (rep also commented on this) I would just go a head and order since they are not clearer and told me they do not care. If they ask just tell them you are alumni.
