Looks like Lenovo has dropped the prices on the SL and NEW T series so far. I am seeing pricing of:

    T400 (starting)
    From: $1,130.00*
    Sale price: $847.50*

    T500 (starting)
    From: $1,159.00*
    Sale price: $869.25*

    SL400
    From: $689.00*
    Sale price: $639.00*

    SL500
    From: $689.00*
    Sale price: $639.00*

Also see http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/homepage.swf where it says notebooks (thinkpads) starting at $639. With CPP discounts these are even sweeter!

EDIT: By the way the older T61 is actually more expensive on the site. haha :)
EDIT: R series has dropped as well.

    R400
    From: $956.00*
    Sale price: $764.80*

    R500
    From: $1,010.00*
    Sale price: $808.00*

    YAY!

the price only dropped on the integrated graphics. that would anger me if it was dropped on the discrete graphics option!

does lenovo offer any sort of price protection!?!?!

Yes, they have price protection. At least when I purchased earlier this year they had it. I think it's something like 21 days from your purchase date.

The rules are pretty strict. You need to configure the exact same machine. If anything is different they won't honor the price match. But if everything goes ok they will refund the difference. My price match went pretty smoothly.

Does the price match begin after I receive my laptop?

    Strangesweet,

The price match period is 21 days in the US, from date of invoice (the day Lenovo ships / bills for the system).

Webdtc offers good advice that the configs must match exactly to qualify.

    Best regards,

    Mark

Does anyone think they might do this price drop with the models with discrete video cards? cause I really want to take advantage of this price reduction but if possible I want to get the model with discrete graphics.

Found Discrete model with all the trimmings for very cheap for the T400. Cheapest price to date.

Remember, these are made in Shenzen China, and are made by OEM/ODM's like Quanta for instance.

    I found the following specs:

    Processor1 Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2) 25W

Operating system12 Genuine Windows Vista Business 64

Operating system language Genuine Windows Vista Business 64 US English

Display type 14.1 WXGA+ TFT, w/ LED Backlight, Camera

System graphics ATI Mobility Radeon 3640 with 256MB

    Total memory8 3 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)

    Keyboard Keyboard US English

Pointing device UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader

Hard drive4 160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm

Intel® Turbo Memory hard drive cache Intel Turbo Memory 2GB

Optical device5 DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim (Serial ATA)

System expansion slots Express Card Slot & 7-1 Media Card Reader

    Bluetooth Integrated Bluetooth PAN

Wireless card10 Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN)

Wireless WAN Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network upgradable

    Battery60 6 cell Li-Ion Battery

Power cord Country Pack North America with Line cord & 90W AC adapter

Language pack Language Pack US English

I am confused on the PC Card vs Media Reader option.

The price drop is awesome. I configured a T400 with discrete gfx with just about everything I wanted and it came to $70 more than what I paid for my T61.

Well my T61 still works wonders, but I had some second thoughts when I saw the final price. Not gonna change, though, at least not for now.

They probably are dropping the price on the laptops because no one is buying. We aren't buying because we don't want the laptop. We aren't buying because we still don't have full reviews 2 weeks after launch!

Today Lenovo announced the ThinkPad X301, a component refresh to its popular 13.3-inch laptop.

Looks like the whole product line is pretty much ready to roll now and now its just a matter of selling them to the highest bidder.

Prices are always dropping on computers. The T61 closeout sales IMHO are over with and now it pays to get the T400's.

Thank you Mark for answering my question.

So it's 21 days after Lenovo charges whatever amount to my credit card?

That sounds good since they've been delaying my order and has been while X200 released.

    Thank you again!

The problem strangesweet is you wont be able to price match with the SSD error that we got.

hmmm orderd my notebook on the 12th august. Cost me around $1650, well i will also give them a ring, because i can now save around $350. This reduction makes me question whether the t400 notebook is any good? I thought it would be "top of the range" material from lenovo.

    Discrete was dropped too.

A very nicely equipped T400 with discrete comes to approx $1150. Really sweet deal with CPP.

I just need to make sure its the right size and is the best laptop to get and isn't too heavy.

Also I still have questions on certain options such as PC Card vs 7-1 media reader, WIFI options, battery selections and the like.

Will have to do more research before I buy.

Really? They seemed to have count SSD error as eCoupon so that one couldn't apply any other coupon.

I am not sure where you see it applied as a coupon. I didn't get a new invoice emailed to me though. But they can certainly claim that the SSD makes it different in price matches. And if the SSD wasn't counted against us for the mistake they made, which drive would be the exact same configuration so that we COULD price match? Not so sure :\. I guess we can ask.

so can you do a price match, if you used a discount coupon?

yea the discrete dropped on the T400 but not the T500. plus, i used the cpp thing to get like 400-500 dollars off on my T500 that i ordered with everything maxed out, so i cant complain.

I called them one time to see if I could apply an eCoupon, and the representative said that I already have eCoupon applied (I didn't enter any coupon code before). So I'm guessing they count SSD as eCoupon.
