Hi everyone, I hope you can help.
I accidently spilled some water on my thinkpad, and it as late at night so I just propped it up against the wall and let it dry (After wiping the keys).
The next day, inthe afternoon I sarted playing on it again and everything was fine, then suddenly the computer wouldn recognise certain keys- namely QWER UIOP only!
Thinking its stil water in there, I took the screws out of the back and turned the keyboard section over to inspect (in the corner a little white disscolouration) but not any water. The keyboard is still conneced to the thinkpad by that gold flexible metal strip. So i left the computer on all night and all day, and when I cam home I checked and the same keys were still not recognising, so I did a sysem restore thinking it might have been software. Nope! Then, when havig a look around the keyboard, the pc started doing wierd things like asking to confirm to shut down and making a beeping noise- seemed to be connected to how I was holding the keyboard bit of the thinkpad. (i know.. should have put it back in and fixed it in plac but didnt hink I did anything wrong since its a flexible strip anyway.
So after a second it made a beeping noise that sounded like it was in pain! then turned off ala pull the battery out style.
The on switch, if anyones familar with the R60e is on the keyboard, and it doesnt turn the pc on anymore. When I first took the keyboard component out from the main thinkpad, there was a coupel of accassions i needed move the keyboard around a bit to get the on switch to work.
I cant but help think I have broken it now, i mean a whole day on - I could feel warth all over the keyboard when i got back from the running of the computer for that period (no hot). Surely any water would have evaporated- REally not sure what to do, its not in warrenty I dont think, and its not even my thinkpad- is my otherhalfs and I havent worked up the balls to tell her ive actually broken it. She still thinks im "making it run better"....
PLEASE HELP

How does the Witness Protection Program sound? Maybe as a place to start you could get another keyboard to test if it's the keyboard or something else that's causing the problem.

Well like i said, the on button is on the keyboard, its attached to the pc. another keyboard that would allow me to turn it on would mean paying someone A. for another keyboard component and B. installing it- just to see if i works. Any oher suggestions?

is there a way to turn it on without this, like a "secret on button" you can get to wihout the keyboard?

Just for future reference if you spill liquid on a notebook, you should probably disassemble of much of it as you can. Take out the battery, hard drive, memory, etc., looking for damage along the way. Then let it dry naturally. I would say overnight is not long enough. If you turn it back on and there's still water in there it can short. Reassemble it and see it if it works. What's done is done. I would say a keyboard is your least expensive option now. If you're lucky that's all it is. If it turns out it's not, you can always flip it on eBay. You probably won't lose too much $$.

I took it into a local pc repair shop- £45 up front to check whats wrong, then take it from there. hopefully not going to be completely pronged.
cheers for helping,

well found outs it buggered, they said its both the keyboard and the connection to motherboard- said too expensive to be economical to fix. owell, an ideas if it would get anything on ebay?

Maybe a couple hundred but that's a guess on my part. Look on eBay to see what similar parts machines are going for.

My Daughter splashed a small amount of coffee on my Wife's R60e keyboard.
They turned it upside down and wiped it down. But then kept using it.
It cut out 10 mins later and would not re start even 2 weeks later after fully drying out.
When the power was plugged in the LED light would come on to indicate power was there, but nothing would happen when the on button was pressed.
Finally fixed it by unfixing the keyboard and flexing it by gently bending it a little. The on switch then started working. No coffee had penetrated past the keyboard to the mother board below.
