Hi, I am using a Lenovo R60e for a couple weeks, but the speakers are so soft that I can barley here music or movies.

All the settings are maxed out. I am wondering if they are just poor speakers in these laptops and that this is normal or if I need to get a new driver or something.

    Any help would be awesome!

    Thanks!

I have a T400 and I am in the same boat as you. I am not sure why the speakers are not loud on this laptop. I too believe I have everything maxed out, but the sound is still very low.

thinkpad are not renowned for their quality speakers, unlike other manufacturers whom try to jazz up the speakers by using JBL, HK, Altec Lansing parts, etc, Thinkpad used most basic speakers there is to produce basic sound and music for those people whom wants it...... so don't expect audiophile quality or ear-drum bursting sound level from it........that is for your external speakers.

Sure the speakers on many ThinkPads are not world class since they are mostly business machines. However there is a difference between barely being able to hear the sounds as the OP writes and mediocre speakers.

    OP:
I think there is an issue with the driver settings file (.inf). In other words, I think the person responsible for the settings have written the wrong code for the dB output.

I had an issue with the microphone sound levels on my X200. I also tried everything including installing the latest drivers. After a lot of research I found out that the .inf file contained too low numbers in the section controling the audio levels.

Yeah, I think you must be onto something JabbaJabba. This is just ridiculous.

I can plug headphones in and set them on the keyboard and they are just as loud as the built in speakers on this machine!

Thanks for all the ideas and inputs guys.

its ok... in all the reviews, the bad speakers are passed over in the review simply cause its a "business" laptop..
    i miss my ideapad's speakers

Again I have to re-emphasize that there is a difference between having business laptop speakers and speakers that output sound so low that one can barely hear it.

Most of the ThinkPads I have had or worked on, might not have had very good speakers, but all of them could be turned up in volume to a level which is quite loud.

Exactly. This is just ridiculous for any laptop these days.

Are the speakers a standard size where one might be able to "upgrade" them to something better?

    TIA
