Hello all, I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me....
I purchased a Lenovo R61i for my wife probaly 7 or 8 months ago. Its a dual core machine running Windows XP pro, and it's BIOS is 6.28.07 ver 1.03.
Today it started doing some strange things - which began as it sat on but unused (I won't detail this unless some one asks) but it seemed sort of like stuck key, but maybe a virus (we run norton IS 2008).
While I was trying to get to the task manager it would show for a secont and then minimize not allowing me access, and when I did this several times the "blue screen of death appeared" and the machine rebooted before I could read the blue screen.
In its reboot the notbook beeps insistantly (mabye a hundred or so short beeps - stuck key?) and then go to the XP revovery console. Running tests in the console inticated that the ES?BIOS has failed, and the multi processing is misconfigured - I have read elsewhere that this is what all lenovo's return during this testing.
I am currently running a HD test from the BIOS (f1) which I was able to get to on a hard reset (holdng down the power button until the machine shuts down - currently the only way to reboot.)
Any help or input on this would be appreciated.
TIA

Here's the incredibly helpful information my HD test reveled:
edit: Apparently, I can't post images - kinda sucks. -
Says I need 15 posts to do this?

Now lets see:
Yup, 15 posts and picts work. -
Inquire Lenovo to send you a new HDD, seems its defective.

Thanks for your input, I will probably just order a replacement of the same HD online. I have no patience for warrenty paperwork etc. I need the PC working ASAP or I need to decide that I need to buy a replacement.
If I invest in a new HD and it doesn't solve the issue, I will simply replace the PC, and have some fodder for the shooting range.... -
I decided to pull the RAM (it has two GB installed, on two simm or dimm or whetever they are on this PC), and it booted right up. Tested the HD again (this time through XP not the BIOS), and it says all is well. I will test each mem stick individually and see if one or both have failed. Could still be a HD problem, but just intermittent - we'll see what happens...

1 stick of 1 GB ram had failed, pc is up again I am runn the BIOS HD diag again to see if it give the same result as the pict above shows.
-
Got the same error runnong the HD BIOS test - wish I had run some of these tests when the PC was new, so I would know if it is actually an issue or not.

Actually memory errors are quite common on laptops and desktops too often causing BSOD's.
