    Here's my story in short:

My battery was losing power while plugged in, I called Lenovo, they said take it to a repair centre. The guy there said you need a brand new battery!!!, ordered one, but gave me a used scratched one instead…looked exactly like my old one, had grease marks on it as well  .

After this incident my screen now flickers while not plugged in  , and the sound has stopped working as well……also the volume/brightness level displays on the screen work now and then. (Thinkvantage button works off and on)

This is pathetic, I told them I want this unit replaced, they said NO you have 20 days to replace. They gave me a friggin lemon.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to escalate this to the executive office (already talked to "compliance manager"), I got friggin lied to and these people have no shame, as goodwill they should at the minimum replace this unit, even though it's not part of their "policy"…they should accept responsibility.

What are some suggestions on how I should handle this????
Any tips??...to those that have been through this

To new potential buyers: Just Say no to Lenovo!!!!

Go to a manufacturer that cares about it's customers!!!!!!!

    I bought it back in Feburary 2007. Therefore, yes I do. It's a T60.

This doesn't sound like something that takes 6 months to go through.

No, I started getting problems around the 3 month mark, I called them and they told me to do a system update, which I did, but that didn't work. I didn't say anything after that because I was busy working and then around a month ago when I would move the laptop sometimes it would make a sound as if I removed the power cord, so being concerned I called them again, and that's when they told me to take it to a repair centre......it's not just battery problems anymore...

It may have just happened. I had a T40 battery just _die_ on me back in Oct/Nov of 03. Just died. No more charge. It happens.

Clutchmoney, just call IBM SERV( I forget if its 888 or 877 or what not, but..) Get ahold of them and they'll fix it. or Should.

OP, you're still under warranty. No, they might not send you a new one. It's already 6 months since your purchase. But, they should at least repair your laptop. If they give you the run-around regarding repairs, file a complaint with the BBB.

The main issue I have is that I was lied to, someone has to take some responsibility for that, I work as an auditor, there is no way someone can get away with that without any repercussions. T

But they lied to me...that's unacceptable. They've got to do something more than just repair my laptop, don't you think?

I've already been in to repair and I got screwed....that's my point.

    Or am I over-reacting?

So what was the lie? The fact they gave you a used battery instead of a new one, the fact that they said no replacement because 21-day returns only, or the fact that they said it was only a battery issue?

If it is the second, that isn't a lie because they only repair your laptop under warranty, not replace it. They only replace for 21 days.

If you are complaining about the used battery, I say it could be an act of malice or just an innocent mistake. Either way, you are overreacting because there's no way to prove whether or not they lied on purpose. You should have just brought the battery back to the repair center and asked for an actual new one instead of trying to use and live with it.

If you are complaining about how they said it was only a battery issue, it could just be that they were incompetent. You don't have to turn this into an ethics issue. Maybe the repair center employees are idiots. Center you complaint around incompetence rather than morality.

having no warranty with lenovo/ibm is almost the same as having a warranty. Solectron is terrible, they do not know how to troubleshoot or fix problems, hell they can't even replace parts without destroying other stuff. Do yourself a favor and go and *buy* another battery rather than waiting on these people from Lenovo/IBM you will save yourself a lot of grief. Usually if the battery is suspected they will ship you a battery, and you will not have to send in the computer etc.

It is the fact that he gave me a used battery when he told me that he would be ordering a NEW one, I asked him twice if it was brand new, the guy told me "yes" each time, there is no mistake on my part here.

Secondly what the guy DID do was change the settings on the laptop to have it constantly charging. He changed the settings on my computer, THAT's IT!!!...I had it set to charge after 96%, what he did was stop it from losing charge..

Don't know if you have ever taken a business course in school, but that's a blatant no-no, in any line of business. The worst thing you can do is deceive a customer. I know you are trying to take an objective point of view in this case, but I've covered all the bases, and I know this person lied to me. My question is what should Lenovo be doing to compensate me for my troubles?

Lenovo has lied to me as well. They offered an R61 for sale on their website (lie), then cancelled my order and pretended nothing happened. They smell like poo.

I know that, and you don't have to respond to me with that tone. You asked if I thought you were overreacting, and I thought you were. If you truly feel you were lied to, then just use that as more reason on the phone with CS reps as to why they better fix your laptop for free. They're not going to send you oatmeal cookies or anything.

Also, I'm unclear on how your ordered your battery. Was it sent to you or was it handed to you in person? Either way, when you received it, you should've gotten on the phone immediately and complained about the condition of the battery sent to you, not try to ride it out by using it. That's the mistake you made; it doesn't matter if you confirmed it beforehand. You got something that you hadn't confirmed, so then what? If you take weeks to react to a used battery sent to you, how the heck are you supposed to prove that the battery was sent to you in that condition?

They didn't lie to you. They stated they were not responsible for pricing/typographical errors in fine print. As lame of a disclaimer that is (and easily abused), it was still said and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

You are being too sensitive, relax, I didn’t mean anything by that post, sorry if you took it the wrong way….I don't know you and you don't know me, so there's no real reason to get touchy, it's an internet forum, and I appreciate everyone's input, including yours.

It's not a matter of getting it fixed, they are willing to do that, it's a matter of trust, customer relations, and what they should be doing to compensate for what took place.

My post was just to get a reaction, to find out if people have had similar issues and if Lenovo has done anything to rectify the situation….Hell I know other companies in other industries who would offer a full refund if something like this took place....

Oh yeah, he basically handed me back my laptop with the battery in it (just like how I gave it in), it's once I got into the sunshine I saw all the scratches and grease marks..... I wasn't going to call the guy a liar after he told me it was brand new...therefore I took it up with Lenovo after I came back.

Virtually the same thing happened to me. My battery and charging circuit failed. To make a long story short, the f--ked me over bigtime. They lie, they give you the run around, they are clueless. I will never, ever, buy another Lenovo product and I will forever discourage anyone from buying a Lenovo product. I could tell and say more but I'd just get more angry than I am.

I asked him " is this brand new" he said "yes"....

I don't have a fighting personality, I didn;t want to call him a liar to his face, that's just not me. I thought if I called Lenovo they would do something about it....how wrong I was...
