This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Lenovo S12 suddenly shutting off - not even a blue screen

    It started doing this about 3 weeks ago. Seems to do it randomly, although I'm not sure it's ever done it while I wasn't actively browsing the internet (Firefox)... of course I almost always have the browser running.

    It does run checkdisk when it boots back up on its own.

    How do I determine if this is software or hardware... and what's the best way to correct the problem? I suppose I could do the one-key recovery, but I'd like to avoid that if it's a hardware issue.

    It has the Nano CPU and runs XP Home.

    If you think it's the drive I'd suggest making a backup and you can HD Tune to see if there's something wrong with the drive.
