Ey guys, for those of you who don't know about my T60 problems let me reiterate:

Previously I would be gaming or doing something on my computer, and all of a sudden the screen would freeze up. I eventually found out it was due to excessive heat. So after getting it repaired by a Lenovo technician just a couple months back(have a thread on that too), another problem has arisen.

Now whenever I am doing something the screen will all of a sudden turn black and moving my mouse or pressing any buttons will not bring back the regular screen. The computer is still running when this black screen comes up and my only option is holding the power button to turn it off. Sometimes even tapping the power button shuts off the computer.

I am thinking it may have to do with the unit overheating again but that seems unlikely since I got a brand new fan in the notebook just a couple months back.

Here are my current temperatures( I recently turned on the notebook about 20 minutes ago, rendered a short clip and opened up firefox with many tabs):

    HD0: 35C
    Temp1: 61C
    Temp2: 61C
    Core0: 63C
    Core1:63C

I will be contacting Lenovo about this, but would like to have a good idea about what is going on before I do. Thanks for any help and advice!

Exactly what I've endured with my X60s for some months now. All of sudden the screen goes black with backlight still on and the system still running. But I can suggest you an work-around, press Fn+F4 to put the system into sleep mode and then wake it up (just press Fn) and voila, its running perfectly normal. My problem only arise when I'm running on battery, tell me about yours, ok?

Ahh, I see, I will give that a try. I usually run mine on power so it always happens when I am connected to the power cable. I will definitely give that work around a try and report back. Thanks.

Did you try perhaps changing the brightness with the fn+home or fn+end keys?

No, not at all. You mean you think brightness changing made it turn black? I did not do any such thing though.

My T60 did this off and on throughout the 2 years I had it. I've heard some thing suggested - such as drivers and bios. I updated the BIOS in it a few times (although it had a lot of motherboards when I had it). I only got anywhere with playing with drivers.

Try updating your video drivers if you haven't already. I had a similar problem when playing games and it was due to an outdated driver.

I updated my video drivers when the fan was replaced and even right after then, I got this problem but didn't bother posting it then. I doubt the drivers are the problem, but will try them nonetheless.
