On a Lenovo R60 running Windows XP SP3, is it necessary to allow any of the Lenovo services to run? Or can they all be disabled?
Thank you.

Yes some services are required. ThinkPad power manager, TPM, and ThinkVantage are a few you should allow to run. How much memory do you have installed? Have you made a checklist of all the programs that may have created startup services?

you only need the ones you are going to use

Can you explain the reasons, why those three are necessary?
Thank you. -
2) ThinkVantage is a Lenovo software package/utility that allows you to update your system including BIOS and drivers effortlessly. It does other things as well. Read more here: Lenovo - Software - ThinkVantage Technologies
3) Trusted Platform Module or TPM should be on your system for added security reasons. Read here: Trusted Platform Module - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If you were running Windows Vista or Seven then TPM is built into the OS.
edit: I'd like to add that Power Manager helps prolong battery life and i've seen my T60 get unstable without power manager. Again this pertains to Windows XP as Vista and Seven both have a very good PM built into the OS.
