Hi all, first post here. I was wondering if there are any experiences out there with the Lenovo Smart Card reader for CAC/DOD PKI. I am pricing out a Thinkpad for remote work next year and will need access to DOD servers which require a CAC smart card to access.

I have found that only the T420/s models have the option ($9) for this device, which is fine, but I was wondering if anyone is currently using this model out in the field and how it works as far as reliability. The lenovo solution is much cheaper than aftermarket options (expresscard, usb, etc). I know there are many other CAC options out there but I would rather have an internal option(so I won't misplace it).

Also, if there are any MD's on this forum - wondering about the T420 laptop as far as viewing PACS (CT/MR) and using dictation software on the built in microphone...

    Thanks!

Ordered a T420s with the reader, but I have not received it yet. Not sure about DoD servers and such but I will let you know my experience if no one else does... Otherwise, I'm interested in hearing if there are any issues...

I supplied my own answer to this question but I will pass it on to the group in case anyone ever searches for the answer again. I happened upon a friend with a T420 today.

The smart card reader from lenovo works out of the box with DoD PKI. It seems that the drivers are preinstalled and work well with minimum issues.
