Installed new W-7 32bit after a virus, and then installed Think Vantage softeware and driverss, but now if my computer enters sleep mode, there is no way to get it to emerge.

The half-mood sleep LED is illuminated, but otherwise the computer plays DEAD.

The only way to get it to work again is to hold the power button down to shut the unit down, then start it up again. Opening the lid, or using the keys will not wake it up.

I have reset the power management and sleep settings, and the ONLY way to keep my machine usable is to never allow it to go into the sleep mode.

    Thanks for any ideas-

    Bob

I have found resume from sleep problems are usually display driver problems. Especially since it was working before you resinstalled the OS. Do you have dual or single graphics chip in you t400. Definitely look at the display driver.

Also since you are starting from scratch it might be best to go to 64 bit windows seeing as the lenovo key on the bottom is good for the 32/64 version. It'll save you a lot of time in the future when you need to go to x64 and you can add more ram with the 64 bit.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know which I have, or even how to find out.

I will find someone who can show me, though.

A friend did go online and downloaded and installed new drivers, and he also downloaded and installed the Think Vantage package without result.

But it's always possible he missed some drivers that are required. What would one look for in the way of drivers?

I installed a new HD in my R-61e and loaded Win 7, and it worked perfectly (including the sleep function) right at the git-go, so I was surprised the T-410 was giving me a hard time.

    Thanks,
    Bob

is it the t410 or t400 model I see reference to different models. Still I'd probably check your chipset drivers and display driver (assuming everything worked fine before the OS install)

    Sorry-

The reverence to the T-410 in that post was a typo.

I do own a T-410 that I bought as a refurbished unit from Staples, but it is my wife's T-400 that is the problem child.

I also referenced an T-61e that had no problems (w/ regard to sleep and hibernation) after re-loading its OE after installing a new and larger HD, but that, also, is another matter (and it suffers from a problem that forced my purchase of the T-410, and is one I will ask about here on the forum next).

I will try wiping the HD on the T-400, re-install W7 and start over, as I THINK I have downloaded all of the drivers I could find that pertained. Maybe the Windows Gods will be kind and the unit will heal itself.

    Thanks-
