    hello,

Just got a T400... It's awesome in many respects which I won't go into here, but I have one rule and that's that I can't use a computer that has CPU whine.

On my old dell I was able to use the 'RUN HLT COMMAND' witchcraft to remove the whine, but on this system I cannot.

Any suggestions? The whine is most noticeable when I set the thinkpad power manager to maximum performance, but it's always "kind of" there. Windows Vista Home Basic running at the moment.

There is also some AC Adapter noise (affected by CPU utilization), but thats not as piercing... and.... one issue at a time...

Any hope for a software fix? Any hope that a replacement unit will fix the problem?

Have you updated the BIOS? also you can fix the adapter problem with a warranty swap, call Lenovo and request for a new adapter.

I have a E6400 with the P8700 and I get the whine in Win7 if I set it to high performance. It goes away for the most part when i set it to Balanced. Funny, I don't hear it much at all in Linux.
