I'm currently looking at the Lenovo T400. I've seen it mentioned (in reviews and in forum threads) that the T400 can be purchased with a matte display, but when I go through the ordering process on their website I don't see any mention of whether the screen is a matte or glossy display. Am I missing something? How do I specify the display type, or does the T400 always come with a matte display?

    Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, T400 has only a matte display (mine is such)...

The screen is matte, there is no glossy option for thinkpads. Thank God lenovo understands that matte is the better type of screen for a true mobile computer.

Thanks, both of you. Using the laptop outside is more important to me than watching movies in the dark, so I agree that matte is the way to go. And now that I know I'll be getting what I want, I'll go make use of the current sale that saves me ~$400 off of their regular "sale" price.

Nice! Oh and dont worry watching movies in the dark is still pretty awesome on a thinkpad!

Awesome? I think not...Thinkpad matte screens or any matte screen for that matter suck for media compared the glossy.

You may know this already, but the ThinkPad SL400/SL500 are available with an Anti-Glare (matte) display OR an optional VibrantView (glossy) display. But many ThinkPad purists don't consider the SL-series to be "real" ThinkPads, so your statement is true if you don't consider the SL models to be ThinkPads! :D

Purely opinion based. I had a top notch glossy screen on my dell and compared to the thinkpad they showed movies in the dark just the same. Not to forget the graphics people in my office dont notice any difference from glossy to matte for their design work. Im not saying that my thinkpad screen is the best there ever was, but from my experience and opinion having a glossy finish does nothing but add glare in lit situations and provide clearer fingerprints from those ignorant people who like to touch LCDs.

I stand corrected. I dont think the SL series is as much of a thinkpad as say a t or w series, but if it is branded a thinkpad then its a thinkpad. But then again I never even looked at the sl series so I guess I am sorta biased. :p
