    Hi,

I waited forever to get SSD option on T400, then ordered it and picked it up at the UPS amidst a heavy snow storm after 2 trips. I come home and try to boot it up and find that 128G SSD is missing from the system. They shipped to me without the harddrive. It is incredible, is there no quality checks before shipping it out.

I called their customer support and was transferred to and fro several times before they finally told me it is a sales issue and sales is open only 5 days a week between 9 AM and 5 PM.

Please please let me know what is the fastest way to get a resolution on this.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Nat

Lenovo's best service/support is Executive complaints in Morrisville, NC (US Headquarters). They are very good at taking care of these kind of issues.

However, it can take a while to get through the layers of Lenovo support to finally reach them and the Christams holiday is going to make that even tougher.

I would suggest you just keep calling Lenovo support/EZserv until you get someone who's willing to help you out and overnight an SSD with the appropriate recovery discs.

It's not good for you to be so worked up over something so minor.

Call tech support and ask for a drive. I usually find persistent, but firm to be the best approach. Maybe you can get a set of recovery discs out of it.

See if you can find a link to contact the CEO or something. I was having problems with an HP printer and went through tech support and hold I can't tell you how many times. One guy said he'd call me back and that was the end of that. I had to explain my problem over and over and over and over again to different people every time and nobody could help me long enough to fix anything and finally I got really fed up. So I sent an email to the CEO telling him of my difficulties and my displeasure with their service. I was quite amazed over the QUICK service once they found out my discontent. They even had a manager call me!! --unfortunately my problem was never officially fixed (although I found a solution that will do) but you could give that a try!!

True. I'd try to get even more than that had this happened to me.

Except that there's no higher capacity SSD than the one he ordered, which is 128GB

Did the OP even check if there is a hard disk installed? I find it hard to believe that the notebook can be shipped without a hard disk installed. It can just be missing a preloaded OS image.

to be honest, this sounds to me like an attempt to get a 2nd 128GB SSD for free... curious to see how this unfolds

Id give the OP the benefit of the doubt. However the chances of this happening is as low as it gets...

Not only that. The thing is I've encountered similar cases before where the user simply fails to check if the hardware exists or is functional before making such claims. One can easily verify the hardware through the BIOS.

When you ship that many notebooks, there's bound to be a few oddities.

True. And I'm sure whenever it does happen, very few would post online about it.

It seems that the OP hasn't reported back on this. Mark is taking care of the problem.

    Hi,

Totally forgot about this thread while I got caught up with Lenovo support to get this fixed.

My SSD is finally shipping today and I have the RDVDs already. Hopefully I can get the whole thing over tomorrow.

I am planning to get more than just the SSD for the troubles that I am going through. Folks that I talk too, not just me, are still not convinced on how this could ever happen.

@ZaZ, How could I not be worked up after rummaging through BIOS settings, banging head with tech support and following up endlessly to see this thing through.

@DD, I am at least as curious as you to find out how this happened. For your conspiracy theory on me trying to cheat, I could only wish that your neck was at arms length.

    @Nonny,

Mark has done a terrific job so far; hands down he has been the best that I have interacted with ever since this happened.

But think about it from my angle - Why do I have to go through the consternation of obtaining the drive, installing it and imaging the laptop when I have paid big bucks that include all this. Why at all in the first place?

Didn't mean any harm, was just giving my $0.02. Glad it's working out for you in the end.

I agree, in addition to making things right; you do deserve some sort of compensation from them as well.

    Hello All,

I did get my SSD yesterday and was able to install it and image the laptop with XP CDs provided by Lenovo.

I am overall very impressed by the laptop performance and the feel. The SSD was worth the wait after all :)

Thank you for all your $0.02 on this, they have made me a rich man ;)

    Cheers,
    Nat
