I just got a T410--when it starts up and also when I unlock it after it has gone into lock mode, there is a blue bar on the screen with the number 15 on the right side and what looks like a "sun" on the left side. Does anyone know what this is. Is it a control setting for something?

That's simply the Brightness setting. Press the FN key + Home/End key and you can adjust it manually up or down.

Is this suppose to be displayed when the computer comes on or can you turn it off. Is it part of Lenovo or Windows 7?

It's part of Lenovo's Hotkey integration (not originally Windows), if its something that you don't like you can always remove it from the programs section while still retaining the brightness and volume control functionality.

Go to the Start Orb, in the search bar type in "Programs" and it should be under Control Panel - "Add or Remove Programs".

In the list, uninstall the "On Screen Display" and related items. Reboot if necessary and it should stop the indicators from popping up.
