I was on the phone with the Lenovo customer service folks, and they told me that the T410s would be finally be available again, with switchable graphics and all. I also asked about the lack of availability of the i7-620 on the T410s, and he said something about battery life, which still confuses, given the same power consumption (35 W)

Just thought people would be interested to finally order them again.

Still didn't see the 410s on the site - did they say when it would be back up on their site?

TDP's are just a thermal spec. not a real usage spec.

under full load the i7 may consume 35, where the low end i5 may consume 25 as a real number

There are no options for switchable graphics at the moment. That will probably come at a later time.

i ordered a t410 but i always wondered if the premium price on the t410s is really worth it. any1 knows? my first notebook was a really thin one, but it had lots of heat problems, if it was running for hours under full load. since then i didn't go for very thin anymore.

I called in and the sales rep doesn't have a clear idea when the switchable graphics option will be available. Should be soon though. Holding out for that.

My understanding is that Nvidia Optimus is not a new hardware option, it operates at the software level. It should be compatible with Core i3, i5, and i7 "Arrandale" chips as well as Core 2 Duo platforms and the Atom N4xx "Pine Trail" platform. So then, it is probably just a matter of Lenovo providing the drivers, or using one of the alternative driver downloads. And, hopefully Nvidia will support Linux users as well.

Well, I ordered a T410s today. I haven't seen any reviews yet, but the reviews of the T410 and the T400s make me comfortable. I know the screen will probably be subpar, but no other laptop with a premium screen will be as good as the T410s in many other areas - it is an excellent, powerful, and compact package, and I've been waiting to order it for a long time!

    Some notes:

-Only the i5-520M is available to buy right now, even though the i5-540M is "supposed" to be available on the T410s. We know Lenovo - it could be days or months until the 540M shows up, and the 520M is still perfect for my uses, so I decided to order today instead of waiting an indefinite amount of time for a more expensive and only very slightly faster CPU option.

-I was surprised to find today an "Intel 80 GB Solid State Disk" option. I had planned on just ordering the cheap 5400RPM drive from Lenovo and swapping in an 80GB Intel X18M G2 SSD on my own. The price on the Intel SSD option from Lenovo was awesome - much less expensive than buying the drive on my own. A Lenovo Sales Rep confirmed that these will definitely be the G2 drives (although I only trust those phone guys so much) and with the fact that the X18M G2 are finally starting to show up at retailers, I'm confident that's the case. The order page says the Intel SSD option could delay my ship date past 4 weeks, but I thought the savings were worth it, and I'll just have to wait and see what happens with that ship date. I'm fine if it takes that long, I guess.

-Also ordered an ultrabay caddy for a 500 GB hard drive I'll be adding in place of the CD/DVD drive.

Here's the final specs, and I'll keep you all posted with an informal review once I get my hands on it:

Good luck with that T410s, hope it is a fine machine.
I bit the bullet and ordered a T400s at the fire sale prices from a couple weeks ago. I'm loving it. It's a worthy upgrade to the T43. I was concerned about build but I think it's mostly a reaction to the reduced weight compared to what I'm accustomed to. Functionally the T400s does everything I throw at it with ease.

Ditto. I configured the same specs and it's coming out to 1604 instead of 1363. What's the secret?

I don't know about wilse, but I just ordered several T410s's yesterday (but without the Intel SSD, which I'm purchasing separately) and I just contacted a Lenovo sales rep, and he sent me back a quote that was $250/machine less than the configured price on the website.

Yeah, with the crazy estimated ship date, I thought about cancelling and re-ordering without the SSD and just swapping in my own SSD as I had originally planned. But, I think I'm just going to stick with it for a couple reasons:

-I've waited this long already, what's a few more weeks? My current laptop still works.

-It will save money on the price of the SSD in the long run, and the SSD will be covered under the laptop's warranty/adp.

-We all know Lenovo's billing department - cancelling and re-ordering could possibly be a major pain.

-Again, we all know Lenovo - this could take the full 9 weeks, or it could magically ship unexpectedly in 3 weeks just as easily.

I'll just be patient and wait it out.

For 15% off, use coupon code "USP0211T410S". I found this code in an email from Lenovo and tested it out in the cart on a configuration I was thinking of purchasing.

I think I'm going to wait for teh better Core i5 processor and discrete graphics option before pulling the trigger.

The delay is on the laptop screen. If you want your 410s sooner get the touch screen - at least according to the sales people.

Again, just to be clear here - there is conflicting information going around as my sales rep says my order of several machines is delayed because the motherboards are not available. I wouldn't assume that a touch screen would be available any sooner.

No doubt, just more crazy sales talk. So far the sales guys have pretty much used every feature that is or was offered as a reason. 540M check, SG check, Intel SSD check, motherboard check, non-touchscreen check. Non-touchscreen is interesting because it suggests that purchasing a 400 dollar upgrade will get you your machine to you faster...hmmm... At the end of the day, no T410s' regardless of configuration have shipped.

Pretty much this, exactly. First off, the phone monkeys at Lenovo are not given the daily details of what is holding up what on the production line. The guy that said it was the screen was just going from what the consumer website says - and this changes pretty much daily. For a week there, the T410s was flipping between "Ships in more than 4 weeks" and "Ships in 12 business days" pretty much daily.

Swerrrvin put it correctly - the delays have been due to hard drives, displays, cpu, motherboards, graphics. Forget all that, it is just clear that Lenovo just does not have the T410s production sorted out yet - whether it is manufacturing or supply issue, we don't know. What we do know is that lead times on T410s are long right now, so don't order if you need it quickly.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone - this is absolutely typical Lenovo for a new product launch.

Yup. That is the one sorta review out there. Watched it. Quite lacking in details. Still skeptical.
