    Hi,

I've bought new Lenovo T500 notebook and I'd like to install Windows XP. I've got problems with that because of blue screen during installation startup. It doesn't matter if I try to use XP recovery CD for T61 oraz Windows XP installation CD SP2 or SP3. Do you know how succefully install Windows XP on new T500? Do you know XP recovery CD FRU number for T500?

    Regards
    PrzemO

    Hello,

first please burn your recovery disk set, you´ll need 3DVD´s.
And save your folder c:\SWTools there are all your driver and application stored.
Some are able to run in XP too. Search for a clean installation guide here on NBR. You´ll find two or more.

    Regards
    Andreas

    Hi,

thanks for your help. The most important thing was to change the SATA option from AHCI to Compatible. And now XP CD recovery of T61 works fine too.

I am following the clean install instructions and unfortunately, I am getting a Blue Screen of Death in pci.sys. It is happening when XP Setup has loaded the drivers and tries to start for the first time (says "Starting Windows" and then immediately BSODs). Yes, I have the SATA controller in Compatible mode. I tried with "boot display adapter" set to "integrated" and to "discrete" -- does not make a difference, either.

What else may be the difference?
I am trying this with the standard XP install disk from MS -- can the recovery CD contain something different? I guess not at this early stage...

(I even ran Linux in "live-cd" mode, just for kicks and to make the hardware itself is not to blame... runs with no problem, so the hardware itself is fine...)

    Any other pointers?

After spending about 4 HOURS on this Bluescreen of Death it finally works !!

    History:

I've bought myself a new T500-2028-52G. Native OS was Vista Business 32.

Using a Win ME Boot-CD and the fdisk-Tool i've complete erased all partitions.

Afterwards i've tried to install WinXP x64 and recieved the BSO (motherfu****)D.
After several tries with the RecoveryCD's (but no Backup to restore [remeber: i've erased EVERYTHING]) and some tries with older Windows-Version (like XP Pro 32, Win98 oder Win ME) and ALSO some tries in an T61 i've went into BIOS and used the hint out of this thread:

In the BIOS menu select the first option (i think it was config), there the S-ATA menu and change the SATA option from AHCI to Compatible.

Afterwards its working !!! (installing right now).

    Thanks a lot to 23judgedredd !!!

I am trying to make a new Company image for the T500. Problem is that even with the hint about the SATA I still get BoD for the pci.ini. If anyone else have any ideas on why I get the 0x7E it would be much appreciated.

Guys, its not recommended to turn of AHCI in BIOS.
This is how you do it:
    Download nlite (or vlite software).
Download the Intel Matrix Storage Driver for your machine.
Check out the nlite (or vlite) installation manual to integrate the driver with your XP disc.
Use this fresh disc for installation.

While trying to figure out how to reinstall WinXP on my T500 I found a paragraph on the Lenovo site that might explain your BSOD problems. It states that the installation disk must have SP2 streamlined into it. If you try with SP0 or SP1 it will blue screen.

I think you will find that you can't make company images from the Lenovo distribution. Why fool with old technology anyway?

As far as sp's are concered, there is no sp0. An SP series begins with SP1.
