    Hello,

I prefer not to get into the whole story behind this. At the end I have been offered a T510 instead of a T500 I purchased. My initial thought was obviously that it's great since the T510 is newer, better processors etc..

However I read on the few reviews I could find that there were some issues with the T510 regarding a "whine noise" from the processor and that in general they are warmer and louder than the T500..

I know for sure that both of them would be amply strong for what I need so performance peak is less the issue. 2 of the most important things for me are heat control and noise (will probably use it for music).

How do the T510 compare to the T500? What do you suggest and what would you have taken? I'd appreciate a fast response since I need to decide soon.

BTW I already own a R500 which is unbelievably cold and quiet.

I have no first hand experience with the new Thinkpads. I do know the T510 doesn't have switchable graphics like the 500. The T510 keyboard is brand spanking new and the redesigned chassis should have alleviated concerns over keyboard flex. I haven't heard about the new CPUs whining, hissing, or otherwise having bad noises; however, the T500 Penryn do. It's what's been called Penryn whine and it has to do with the lower power states of the processor.

If I may be so bold, it sounds like a similar situation actually happened to me when I ordered a T61p in August 2008. I ended up getting my beloved W500 for the (month of) headaches. It was well worth it then for me.

Update: I decided on the T510, though I still didn't get the machine, I really have to say I was extremely impressed and pleased with the way Lenovo handled my problem.
