I have recently received a Lenovo T60 which arrive minus any XP Installation Disk.
I have just generated the 6 Recovery Disks offered by the pre-installed software.

I intend to "wipe" the 80Gbte drive and perform a clean XP Pro installation minus all the supplied and unwanted IBM software.

    Question:-

Are these "Recovery Disks" the same animal as a regular XP Pro Insatllation Disk such as that which one would get if such were purchased anywhere ?
Will they , if used after a hard drive "wipe", install XP Pro and NOTHING ELSE?

If they do not but do , as I suspect , merely re-install the same mixture of XP and the associated but UNWANTED IBM software , then :-

How do I obtain such a disk ?

Recovery disks are not the same thing as XP discs. The recovery CD will install much of the junkware. You should be able to control to a certain extent what software is installed with the recovery discs--there are various options when installing.

You'll need an OEM Win XP disk to do a 'clean' install. If you have the COA on the underside of your laptop, find a friend with a copy of OEM XP and use the disc to install XP.

I have a XP-Pro SP2 disk with genuine Installation Code which I bought for an old laptop which had a m/b failure and has now been scrapped.

I intend to use this for the clean installation but was wondering just exactly what the Recovery Disks would do before using the normal XP Installation Disk.

What does "COA" stand for , please ?
