I am purchasing a Lenovo T60P that comes with 1GB of memory. I noticed the T60P takes PC2-5300 RAM and I am wondering if the T60P is restricted to PC2-5300 or is it compatible with other speeds? In another thread someone mentioned that it was alright to use PC2-5400. I am wondering what are the restrictions and the most appropriate/best performing RAM for this computer?
I also noticed someone said the T60P can accept 4GB, but only registers 3GB? Would the best approach be to just get a 2GB stick in addition to the already present 1GB?
Thanx.

PC2-5300 and PC2-5400 are the same thing because its:
clockspeed(667mhz) x 8 = 5336.
Some Manufacturers round up to 5400 and other round down to 5300. Same thing applies to PC2-4200/4300 which you can also use in your laptop. You wont notice the difference in preformance in the "real world" so go for the cheaper one.
Also look the Hot Ram deals thread for great prices on DDR2-667(PC2-5300/5400 200-pin Sodimm ram)
THe T60p cant see/use 4gb due to a chipset issue, it will only use/see ~3GB with 4GB physically installed as you mentioned.
If you currently have 1x1gb in your laptop now then you will need a stick of 2GB but if you have 2x512mb in your laptop, you will need to replace both sticks to achive 3gb(either 2GB+1GB or 2x2GB) -
Thank you very much Kdawgca. That helps a lot!
