    Hi Guys

I am having problems with the sound on my laptop, the sound was working fine last night and when it came out of hibernation today the speakers are making a loud scratch/static noise, when I put the audio on mute it is quiet.

Edit : I am running windows xp sp2

I have tried reinstalling the sound max software and audio drivers. Can anyone please help me?

    Thanks in advance

Does it happen randomly when you move the mouse or scroll or something? I have the same issue.

I've got a similar "random" static popping on my T61, but I haven't had the time to focus on more troubleshooting with it. I thought I fead something about a bios upgrade on one of the msg boards, but I couldn't find that post just now.

All you need to do is run Windows Update and update the Soundmax drivers. It fixed my static noise.

That actually might be the sound of the mic. I also had the mic problem. I got rid of it by getting the latest soundmax drivers from system update and also disabling microphone boost option in sound options.(Z61T,Windows vista business)

Look down on the bottom left of the keyboard, there are two little rectangular rounded holes. :D

Any solution to this? I'm facing the same issue and when the static/popping noises get really intense, my audio application usually crashes. Winamp and quicktime both do this. With windows media player, the clicks and popping noises keep happening but the player does not crash.

I think this started happening after the recent bios update for the T61. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the soundmax drivers with no result. I guess I'll try to revert back to the older bios when I get time.

    Very annoying!

I have the same problem :(

when I switched over from iPod headphones to a more sensitive noise-reduction type, I can hear an underlying static/humming. It gets louder if you're scrolling a website, or if the processor works harder, and is disabled if you mute the sound (which unfortunately isn't the best option for fixing it :p)

thing is, I've disabled the microphone, updated my soundcard (SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio) to the latest version, and also disabled PC Beep.

    any ideas?
