I've been obsessively checking Lenovo t61 pricing to jump in on a good day. I thought today was the day -- went through the American Exress discount webpage (28% off deal) and under "Special Offers" it claims that there are T series starting at $855! I clicked on this offer, and found no such pricing. The cheapest option (the 14", which I'm looking to buy) starts at 915.80.

Anybody know what the deal is with this? I would call and try to order on the phone, but cust. service is closed by now. Any thoughts? (or suggestions on how to lower this price even more) - this is looking like a pretty good deal (config'd with everything I want for 931.95), but you know how bargain hunting can be addicting...

    Thanks for any input!

There is probably no problem. On the Lenovo homepage (the one for regular customers), it says that the Tseries starts at 900.00 even, thats not true. I think even if you called, you still end up with the same price of $931.

Yeah, just checking the regular page - wierd that it claims a false lower price. Some sort of advertising typo?

I got it down to $859 by downgrading to Vista Home Basic and DVD-ROM. That's a really cheap T61, but that HD is not big enough either at 80GB.

    Chris --

Yeah, I figured - investing in a new computer - probably worth upgrading the HD. I plan on downgrading to vista basic (I have a copy of XP that I will install), opting out of blue-tooth, but splurging on a 100gb HD and 2.0Ghz processor.

That's interesting that you have both a 1420 inspiron and a t60 - what are your thoughts after using both? I would consider an inspiron, but think it might be a little thick for portability's sake (transport = bike), and don't want a loud "click" noise every time I make a selection with the touchpad mouse (is there a word for those things - the right/left click).

Haven't actually tried out the inspirons, but the latitudes have this problem and it's sort of a deal breaker...

    thanks for your input

Actually, our 1420 hasn't arrived yet -- supposed to ship tomorrow. It's for my wife; I suspect it will not be as nice as the T60 -- not as thin or as light or as well-built.
