    hi guys
I am looking for a laptop with NO HEAT issue (and yes I am very much concern with heat issues thats why I choose IBM , should not be noisy prefer specs here under. as IBM Lenovo laptops are expensive comparing to other brands but I heard specially T series is good as in cooling system, I have found two laptops with 14" screen T61 and T400 , I dont mind either old or new model but I do want a cheap model so please suggest which one I should go for with following specs.

Cure 2 Duo 2.0 ghz or 1.8 would be fine too I think (please also suggest with which process it is with good cooling system

    2GB Ram

I prefer hard drive 160gb but if I can upgrade easily without any hassle I can go for 80 gb as well because it could cost less .

    14" screen

and Yes Lastly which one of them is THIN and LIGHT WEIGHT and good in looks as well.

If you know any where I can buy for cheap either u.s or canada or uk please also give a Link

    Regards

So you want cheap, cool, thing, light weight, and good looking. The t61 is probably going to be cheaper if you can find one in the outlet or used. But there are also sales so you could find the t400 as well. What is your budget? Thin is debatable...light weight is debatable and looks good? Have you seen a thinkpad before; does it look fine to you?

The t400 would probably run a bit cooler with the integrated graphics and P series Core2s. But you could quantify your requirements a bit more (aside from ram, hd, and cpu).

well I have found t400 with weight 4.7lbs and t61 with 5lbs but t400 looks thicker than t61 , so may be it is thicker but light in weight? now I wana know if t61 is thicker too like t400? or probably thinner but weight starting at 5lbs? budget is around 8-900 CAD

I have seen some of lenovo models like SL400 which is quite cheap as well compare to t series but again same issue (too thick)

    regards

    go with the T400.

the old t61 with nvidia gpu has issue.

nvidia notebook gpu of 8000series model number has some defect, which cause the chip to become seperated with its packaging. or so nvidia tells us. in any case, use complaint is high, and it is a good idea you avoid that.

the t400 also has numerous new feature that makes it worthwhile, such as its switchable graphic.

Thanks wobble for suggestions, by the way what if I go for t61 without NVdia, still therez problem or only issue is of nvida, actually i think t61 I could get it at lower price because its an old model and i think it is thinner than t400 even though the weight could be slightly high

malajahanam wherez sale around next month? u talkin abt which country?

    Wobble,

I wouldn't call the t61 old at all. It was new a year ago. The t61 has the same memory capacity as any machine currently on the market. It's maximum compute speed is 1/2 a ghz higher. It'll take up slightly more battery capacity because it's a machine based on perfomance and it had no keyboard flex, as a matter of fact, they took the temporary fix for the key board flex from the t-61p. As far as I'm concerned, it's lenovo's best machine.

And Muhammed, we aren't all guys.

You may wish to look at the R61 and R400. They're a bit thicker which does help with the heat.

I am not sure what local retailers there are in canada but you could go through the Canadian portal for lenovo if you want to configure a machine.

and Renee: Most other users neither explicate being male or female. OP was out of line but don't prolong this discussion. We are here to talk about notebooks.

If price is a big concern, then go for the T61. The only "big" consequence is the battery life because the T400 has an LED screen. DDR3 RAM won't make a difference from the DDR2 RAM that the T61 comes with. They also look VERY similar so their is not that big of a cosmetic difference.

    ...?

Also, if the OP is interested in/has a need for discrete graphics, the T400 has switchable graphics, which allows you to run on ATI graphics when you need power, and Intel GMA when you need battery life or want to run the laptop at a lower temperature. This will allow a T400 with discrete graphics to get much better battery life than a T61 with discrete graphics.

I have the NVidia NVS140 GPU in my T61 and it doesn't get hot. Runs very cool. It's a great machine.

Cool is always relative, my gpu (quadro 570m) is about 56 when idle, and can get a little hotter sometimes. You usually don't feel the heat. If you do some hard gaming you will feel it get hot, but that will happen with any machine. Lenovo's are pretty good when it comes to heat. An integrated solution will definitely be cooler. There is really no need for dedicated graphics unless your gaming. Either way, both machines are very good, and very similar. I'd probably go for the one with the better price.

AND drake437 I tried but didnt find any reviews on this machine,(I mean Ideapad Y430) also if you are using or experienced with this machine then inform me if its get hot or any issues of heat? and how about getting noisy? I usually use on the lap so does it get hot on the lap?

If you do not game, get the Intel integrated graphics instead of Nvidia or ATI. The T400 has better battery life and is slightly faster than the T61. If the T61 is much cheaper than the T400, you could get the T61.

Hi Lenovo is currently having issues with it's update service. There may no longer be an automated system update. Please bear this in mind when purchasing.
