I need to find out where I can buy a replacement plastic touch bar (just under the touch pad) on my T61 Model number 6465.

Any help or a point in a direction would be of great help.

    Thanks.

you can't buy it separately as such, you have to buy the whole palmrest assembly.

Try ebay first and see what happens.

    welcome to the forum!

since your photo doesn't show the exact palmrest, answer the following and go to the link below:
    - what's the full model number of your system (6465-CTO, 6465-44U, etc.)?
    - do you have a fingerprint reader?
    - does your palmrest have an IBM logo or a ThinkPad T-Series logo?

once you know this, you can go here and determine which of the four listed FRU numbers (which is like a part number) pertains to your system.   then you can go to the IBM Maintenance Parts site and order direct.

even if you don't order through IBM, you'll want to know the correct FRU number if purchasing through a third-party or someone on eBay.

    Erik,

Interesting that on the page you directed me to it only shows the 6465CTO as a ThinkPad with the IBM logo yet mine is a 6465CTO with a ThinkPad logo (no fingerprint scanner).

    I wonder what gives there

sometimes the model lists aren't all-inclusive, especially since the T61 was a transition model offered when the palmrests were changing from IBM to ThinkPad logos.

in any case, what you want is FRU 42W3821.   it retails for $41.50 through IBM plus tax and shipping.

if your system is still under warranty and the palmrest cracked under normal conditions, you can call the service department and request a replacement.   the number is 800-IBM-SERV (800-426-7378).

I don't mind spending the $50 bucks, I just can't part with the machine. I'm hoping that this is something that a fairly techy guy like myself can handle . . . or . . . . . I'll buy the part and bring it and the machine to a local laptop repair place here in Orange County California.

    What do you think?

It is easy to replace yourself, it won't take you more than 5 minutes.

    Erik,

Thanks . . they do. It looks WAY easy to replace. I already ordered up the palmrest and can't wait to get it and get this thing replaced before it completely stops working.

    Thanks again.
