In the past two weeks, we have deployed approximately 45, T61 into our environment (T60's being our previous deployment). We have encountered as many as 15 machines that are freezing during normal Oracle WebApp use. This has not been a problem with our T60's, or T42's for that matter.

So far, we have cleared the Oracle Jar cache from the clients.
Removed any IE add-on's (IE 6)
Removed and reinstalled 1.3.125 version of JInitiator.

Has anyone else run into an Oracle freez problem specific to the T61? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Is the Oracle application 3D intensive? If so, there are GPU/Motherboard issues at the moment. See some of the other threads on the problem and solutions.

No, it's not graphically intensive at all. Unfortunately.

Are there any difference between the T61's that work and the T61's that don't?

I'd call Oricle. Lenovo ships some kind of security software, I might try disabling it. There is a good amount of bloat preinstalled, making a clean install on a test machine tempting, as well as flashing the CMOS on one of the affected machines.

[On my T61P, besides FPS games, I've ran some heavy software like real-time star charting with 250,000 stars, opening 122MB jpeg files, and played hi-def clips. The only thing that made my TP bluescreen was one version of Ultradefrag.]

Hearing that people have installed bars and stuff on IE, or even using it at all--makes me shiver.

    Edit: did you see this?

It's interesting that not all of the T61s are crashing. I'd check the serial numbers to see if they are low, high or mixed. What's different about the machines.

If you have a sacrificial T60/T40, I might update it to the same level as the T61, and see if your ap breaks. Perhaps something is being installed on the newer machines that is not grandfathered in on the old.

Hardwarewize, I also wonder if the the AHCI advanced host controller setting in the BOIS could be causing a problem. I also might check things like the hard drive protection system, as well as the "Memory Protection" in the BIOS.

I cannot help but think that Oracle and Lenovo are aware of this problem.

wantat10 - we too were having issues with Oracle hanging/freezing.
we managed to stop this by doing the following
In the notification area right click the Nvidia Settings Icon and select nView Desktop Manager – nView Properties
On the nView Desktop Manager click the Disable button then click ok.
In the notification area right click the Nvidia Settings Icon again and select NVIDIA Control Panel
Under Mobile – Change PowerMizer Settings – change to
Not manage my power consumption (Disable PowerMizer) and click Apply
Shut down adn restart - we have not noticed the problem since... Hope this helps you. We found Nvidia was causing our problem after lots of troubleshootin...
    :)

    Hi njan1138,

At first, I thought it was video issue too... because the lockup eventually returns but runs very slow with lots of pixels on the display. Updated the video driver but that didn't fix it - thinking it might be JInitiator may cause this...

I guess the T60 and older models work because they don't use Nvidia chipset. I am trying your workaround suggestion right now and will provide a feed back...

    Thank you,

    Thomas

The workaround fix does the trick for me. Our folks in Finance are very happy now.

    Thanks,
