For what it's worth...
I ordered a T61p with the discrete graphics chipset on October 5, 2007. The specified graphics card was the highly-touted nVidia FX 570M with 256 MB of memory.
I received my T61p today, and ran the system information utility in Vista. The graphics card that I actually received was the lower-tier nVidia NVS 140M with 128 MB of memory.
Lenovo had swapped it out sometime between placing my order and manufacturing it for delivery. I went to the "check the status of my order" page, but of course that is dynamically-updated and now shows the NVS 140 card as part of the spec.
There no longer is an option for the FX 570M card on Lenovo's site.
They've offered me a refund or a small discount if I keep the laptop with the new card. Any opinions?
-
how much of a discount?
-
I'd say the discount either needs to be greater than the cost to upgrade to the 570M, or a full return if you needed the graphics power. They jipped you plain and simple.
-
Update -- I had asked them how much of a discount, and when they got back to me the rep actually rescinded the offer for a discount. So Lenovo is only offering a return and then I would have to rebuy a system.
-
Um, doesn't really make too much sense. You're saying you have a T61p with a NVS 140M? That configuration shouldn't even be possible, as all T61p come with some form of the FX 570M. I would call them out on that
-
Not anymore they don't. And I don't even see order a FX 570M chip option on Lenovo's Thinkpad site.

Make sure you go under mobile workstation, otherwise you don't get the 570M option.
-
My opinion get an HP 8510P no rip offs.
-
There is discrete video and dedicated video.... are you sure you didn't pick discrete under T61 instead of Mobile Workstation? Checking the site now....
-
I still see the T61p on the Lenovo website as having 570Ms. Regardless though, if you ordered a T61p and what you got wasn't as advertised, Lenovo needs to make it right.
-
How sure are you that you ordered the 570M, because I can easily find it on the Lenovo site...
-
You guys are right... it is still available if you select the right starting option. Bizarre.
-
Yep: ThinkPad T61 15 inch widescreen with discrete graphics is a 140M. You probably got what you ordered.
Normal = X3100
Discrete = 140M
Dedicated (Workstation) = 57M
I'd check your order confirmation and see what it says. Unfortunately, both machines are 6459CTO's, but the video should be spelled out. -
Another bizarre thing....If you ordered on Oct. 5, how did you manage to get the wireless USB option? I have not heard that option become available since late August. I have been inquiring about it since I placed my order on Oct. 12. Just wondering what link did you follow when you placed your order.

lets see some proof. t61p is clearly visible on the top right corner above the keyboard.
-
Guess they do call it "discrete" on the mobile workstation page as well, my bad... if your chassis does say T61p and that's what you ordered, someone made an agregious error and I'd return ASAP.
Assuming since they screwed up you will not be paying a restocking fee, right? -
It very well could be that I'm a moron and ordered a T61 instead of the T61p that I intended to order. But the guy on the phone yesterday stated that the spec had changed on the machine i ordered, so who knows.
My resolution: shipping back the original one via RMA, and ordering a new one.
