Can anyone tell me how much louder/hotter a 7200RPM drive is compared to the lower speed on a current Thinkpad? Or any information on the webcam available with the T61?
-
It really depends of the drive. I would say a Seagate drive will be quiet, although not sure about heat. Hitachi's new drive claims to run as cool as a 5400 rpm drive, but I'm not sure how reliable they are since their Death Star days.
-
Hitachi drives now days are very very good. -
*shiver* -
most of them on the ibm T42 models died within a year or two. -
Has there been an "Official" announcement of the T61p?
I've heard June 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th. And, "mid to late June".
Most of these are based on what someone heard from a salesperson.
I'm getting to the point that I can't wait much longer. Is there any OFFICIAL announcement or is there somebody that has "inside" information that knows for sure? -
No, there has been no official announcement, and no one can really say for sure -- no one yet has claimed to be an employee with concrete knowledge of the T61p's official release.
Given the focus on early June dates, it is probably most likely that the T61p will be released before the 15th (here's to hoping!). The lack of specific dates in the mid-to-late part of June seems to point to this, but again it's all speculation. -
I really hope the screen of the t61p isn't off-centered like the t61. Has anyone heard any rumours about this?
-
Here is the link to all of them...

Regarding the video card...if you are really concerned about the video performance of the t61p, I dont understand why you dont just buy a different laptop with a powerful GPU? Thinkpads are for business... it is not a gaming machine.
Its like using an AWD minivan for offroading. It will get the job done..but why not get a real 4x4 SUV if offroading is what you want. (Leaving gas out of it). -
People can't always afford both a 4x4 SUV and an AWD minivan--nor is it always convenient to even if they could.
It's not always possible to find the perfect machine either. Some people want to be able to game well on a business machine. Those two uses aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.
If I were to have only 1 machine, I would want it to be able to do everything I need well--including both gaming and business.
Besides, some people simply want a gaming machine that's incredibly durable--maybe they're accident-prone or something.
Look at it this way. You're in a board meeting, and most likely, you're bored out of your mind as the company president goes on...and on...and ooon..
If you were sitting there with a G1S with the fans going full burst and the neon lights flashing in his face--there's a pretty good chance he'll figure out you're actually playing WoW instead of pretending to listen to him. On the other hand, if you were sitting there with a Thinkpad and a bored smile on your face, he'll be less likely to fire you right? -
-
true that....if the t61p had a consumer version gpu as an option i think the t61p would do well. im not really good with analogies lol, but i tried to illustrate my point...as stupid as it was.
-
I also know many mechanical engineers who need the Quadro for design work, but also are heavy gamers. They're rare, but there ARE good reasons for gaming on a Quadro and it frustrates me when reviewers refuse to benchmark them because they're not meant for gaming.
-
Is June 5th really the release date or are people just throwing this date around without any confirmation?
-
in my opinion i think its just a rumor going around. personally i doubt it will be released tomorrow. maybe announced...but not realeased.
-
like i said earlier, even if it's announced tomorrow, with the things as of late, it won't ship for months
speaking of analogies...
today i was buying a burger at scoreboard grill, and it took them 40 mins to get me my burger.
when i left i said "next time, remind me to order about an hour before i start getting hungry."
it's the same with lenovo. Order it about 4 months before you need it.......it's terrible..... -
If Lenovo did a Flexview 15.4-inch widescreen model. I'd buy it in heartbeat
-
Ugh, bumping of long dead rumor threads...
-_- -
It's OK, it's still a relevant topic.
The current rumor is July 10th for release. I don't know how long it will be before they ship, but chances are soon afterwards, since other countries already have T61p SKUs available from Lenovo.
Looking forward to that Quadro FX 570M (8600 GT class) -
So I can keep it sealed if a 14" T61p comes out...but I doubt it -
-
did the T60p come in a 14" version?

You know its weird... it definitely shows firewire ports in the
Hardware Maintenance Manual (page 41 and 119)
But mine didn't come with one..... (it had an IR port)

I've bought in France a T61p with 15.4" screen 2 weeks ago...
From my online shop it was said that i won't have my laptop before 15th of August... I think it's a bit long...
And, as far as i know, there isn't any benchmark of the 570M available now...
If anyone has a feedback about the card... Because anandtech class it with the 8400 but it's specs are closer to the 8600 so i can't figure out what score it would perf in 3Dmark05
I just can't wait to test it myself
