Is it too late to think about buying a Thinkpad Edge 13" for $500 brand new? By "too late" I mean with the newer ones coming out. What will be similar in that price range?

To be honest with you, go with Thinkpad T410 or a T410s (Lite version of T410) when T420 is released so that you can get it for around the price you mentioned, or an X-series instead, Edge is simply ugly to my eyes and not a true Thinkpad (no magnesium rollcage and a lame design of edge).

Pochi, please, change your font back to default, it hurts reading it ;)!

ARom - 500$ for Edge 13 is rather expensive IMO for what it is, unless its brand new and with Intel SU7300 CPU.
    What about X120E?

I don't think they will be releasing an 13" edge this year. They already have the Edge 420s, 520s, 420s, and the E220s. Guess Lenovo isn't going to produce anymore 13" laptop anytime soon.

The brand new Edge 13 is $450 without taxes and shipping...

The T410 is at least $750.

They are in different classes of machines.

yes it's brand new with the intel cpu for $450.

The X120E does look pretty good though, good point.

Does anyone know what the Lenovo E420 will cost with discrete graphics?

Will probably go for the X120E...

I don't mind it except for the glossy lid which should not be on any thinkpad.

My last T400 was too heavy at 5lbs even without a 9 cell (heavy for me, for college). The 12" & 13" Thinkpads are around 3lbs with 6hrs battery life...

Might be willing to give the E420 a pass if the graphics performance is good enough.
