Well, that doesn't leave any remaining models for the hinted 10-key-less 15.6" Thinkpad?

keyboard seems squished, the backspace/enter/shift key doesn't seem to be as big as the P51

P51 also has a thinner keyboard bezel (left/right) side

It seems like Lenovo uses the keyboard.they also utilize newer models like the ThinkPad L580. Compare it with this: https://www3.lenovo.com/medias/leno...jcyNGMzMzY1OTk2ZjkzNWM3NWFlYWQ0NDkzZTU4YmYxYw

Also notice the TrackPoint buttons on the P52, which are different from the P51 and the same as on the L580. Other 15" models indeed have a "shrunk" keyboard and so does the P52 apparently.

I doubt that the single pipe hsf will be able to cool 2 extra cores and the associated increase in thermal density along with it.

is the P1 actually slated to be released in 2018 (or ever) ?? have seen it mentioned many times in TP forums etc as a highly requested/anticipated model TP, but have not ever seen any indication at all that a P1 will ever be released ...haven't even seen any pictures of a P1.

anyone know if/when they plan a refresh P72 model ?

We don't actually know if it will be called the P1. I'm still holding out hope for a 15" 3:2 display. The promise is "sometime this year."

Given what Lenovo did to the T25, I expect it to come exclusively with Kaby Lake R CPUs just after Intel launches their Whiskey Lake CPUs. Similarly, I'm expecting last gen Nvidia (and maybe AMD) GPUs just as both companies either refresh or launch new gen mobile GPUs. Lenovo will get to call it a great big failure and yap about how the consumer was wrong and nobody really wanted a centered keyboard.

tl;dr. I really wish it won't be DOA.

I have an internal wishlist that I think is very reasonable (not some pie in the sky fairytale like Desktop LGA 16 core Ryzen with dual Titan Vs in a "thin and light" laptop with no throttling).

The E5450 I have now was always a last ditch compromise to replace a dying Vaio. The Latitude is slightly slower than the old Vaio, despite having 2 years and 2 generations of CPU and GPU above the Vaio. The Dell is also slightly larger than the old Vaio, and it doesn't have the internal bluray drive of the old Vaio. Looking at the heatsink, Dell has not meaningfully improved on it in the 4 generations since my E5450 (the heatsink is a key reason why the Dell is slower than the Vaio, IMO).

I've finally deduced a 15" 3:2 laptop could potentially be the same footprint as my Latitude and the old Vaio, with usefully faster components. If Lenovo does it right, the "centered KB" variant may actually do what the Retro 25 never could: be a Thinkpad. However, this is Lenovo we are talking about.

Of note, a 15" 3:2 display would be 12.48" across. Compared to a 14" 16:9 display at 12.2" across (also 8.32" vs 6.86" vertical height). This would make it entirely possible to put this in a modern 14" chassis (cleaning up all of the wasted space from 16:9). This would also negate the numberpad by design.

My E5450 is roughly 13.3" by 9.2" (approx 337 by 229 mm). The Surface Book 2 15 is roughly 13.5" by 9.9" (iirc), most of the extra 0.7" depth comes from that massive hinge. It's doable, but I also know to separate fantasy from reality. Lenovo rising to the occasion is not just fantasy - it's delusion.
