Good question, decided to buy the x120e from Lenovo, ordered the following memory, hope it works inconjunction with what's in the x120e.
Crucial 2G25664BC10 2GB, 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-8500 memory module in Memory for Desktop and Notebook Computers at JR.com
-
Any laptop DDR3 should work.
-
Keyboard flex did I hear? Dang I still need to know, again even though I can guess, if the single core can handle 1080p flawlessly. -
Just ordered one off the Lenovo EPP site...$347.46 plus tax for the E350/6 cell/Bluetooth, everything else standard (except no OS - I have my own Win7Ult). Gonna upgrade the RAM to 4GB on my own and try to deal with the 250GB 7200RPM (wasn't worth ~65 for the 320GB 7200RPM IMO).
This should tide me over until Sandy Bridge/AMD Radeon 6970M Sager/Clevos come out. -
hey sk3tch,
how did you get it to remove the OS? -
Also a coupon you can use with epp
$351.97 was the total with tax, I jumped on it immediately, I have been upset that I missed the HP DM1z 75 off coupon and have been debating purchasing it, but even at $430 for the DM1z I couldn't pull the trigger. So for nearly a hundred less, I jumepd on this one. -
^
Yup. Mine was higher because I added BT for $19. I have a Razer Orochi. -

you got it. Mine was just higher because I went with the 6 cell battery upgrade. -
The price on this laptop seems almost too good to pass up, and I'm heavily contemplating buying one, however...
The 6-cell battery sticking out the back really bugs me for some reason. If I were to simply order the 3-cell battery, does that one protrude out the back as well? I would really love the 6-cell, but it just looks so goofy in my opinion. -
I've been reading that the 3 cell battery doesn't protrude and the 6 cell is an extended battery life one
also the 3 cell makes the laptop weight less
which is why I chose the 3cell
now all I have to worry about is getting a sleeve for this
it came out to be a little under 350$ with tax -
Holy cow, thats dirty cheap!!!!!!!!
-
question:
is there a sleeve that would house this with a 6 cell battery on it?
it's the same dimensions as a x100e
would anyone know? -
-
You got the base model right? Please do some form of youtube review or photo review of it when you get it.
-
my only concern of not getting a 6 cell battery is it it would fit in a sleeve (will be carrying it around alot) -
Im pretty sure you can find a sleeve that fits e.g the 12" flexible/elastic ones may.
-
I also got mine today, hope it arrives sooner then the estimated delivery date. Mines 3/4/11 what about the rest of you guys?
-
10% coupon with GOOGLESHOP
but I don't think it stacks with student or employer discount -
Does anyone here know if any of the privacy filters fit this laptop? I want to use it on the plane, but I hate it when people look at my screen. I want to maintain a degree of privacy.

-
i should have you improt for me LOL -
(sorry, im just pleased this is released earlier then march the 8th) i just need to find somewhere that imports this -
We need to hear personal reports on fan sound, heat and power profiles/cooling profiles!

Order with the Dos option are lock right now, Lenovo team are looking at the problem. They might consider cancel all the order. I figure this out when I was trying to change my order to a 3-cell and with bluetooth. Consider this a warning.
-
So they will actually force people to buy Windows?
-
-
How did everyone get their's so cheap?
Mine with the E-350, Win 7HP, Bluetooth and 6-cell battery came to $550. Are people really getting these for $350? -
Although mine was through EPP. They were allowing everyone in EPP/SPP to select a no OS option, which saved $117. -
I just put in an order without windows last night. Hopefully it goes through...
-
I could not get the 5% coupon to work either.
-
-
Yeah, it looks like they will honor them, at least according to the latest chatter on SlickDeals from the folks that spoke to reps.
My only thought now is whether to upgrade from the standard wireless to the a/b/g/n card - there's talk that it is better with Linux and uses less power (plus may be 300Mbps). Not sure if that's worth $20 to me when I'm already at around $400 after I upgrade the RAM to 4GB.
EDIT: well, I ordered my additional 2GB stick from Crucial.com - hopefully they don't cancel on me now. That will be a bit of a PITA. -
Note: When I spoke to Lenovo on the phone to upgrade wireless they offered to cancel my order so I can re-order, Not worth it for a $20 part. I saved $125+ with tax getting DOS option. -

NBR finally did a review: Lenovo ThinkPad X120e Review
-
edit: i thought this was from notebook check. -
So I got in on the no OS option, and ended up getting the x120e with the E-350 and bluetooth for about $330 after tax - however, I didn't think to upgrade the wireless card for some reason.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows the exact model of the a/b/g/n card? I've heard that it was broadcom, and found a card on ebay, but I'm not sure if it's the right card, or if it would fit, or anything like that, as I don't do hardware upgrades often.
I don't know if I can post a link to this, and if it's not allowed or something I'll delete it, but would it work to buy this card and then replace it in the laptop?
487330-001 HP BROADCOM 4322AGN 802.11A/B/G/N CARD - eBay (item 130489627970 end time Mar-23-11 09:34:07 PDT)
And if that's not the right card or something, does anyone have any idea where I could find the correct card? Thanks. -
I don't think so, no. Lenovo whitelists its WiFi cards, so you will need to find one specifically for a Lenovo machine. That one is listed for HP (which also whitelists WiFi cards).
-
Damn. Any idea where I could possibly find the correct card? And would a card other than those two work (such as an intel one)?
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow

Wait I thought Lenovo only had BIOS branding on the wifi card, you have to use their supplied drivers too or can you use Intel's?
I pretty much only recommend Intel. I've had issues with Atheros in the past though maybe mostly on the manufacturer who supplied the drivers. Intel cards just work, the connection is stable and costs the same as everyone else's WLAN cards.
