Saw the Thinkpad Yoga at Fry's yesterday and just fell in love. I had never seen a Thinkpad in person, so the durability caught me off guard. This one was right next to the Vaio Pro and the build quality between the two was absolutely night and day. One felt delicate and flimsy, the other felt like it could be thrown across the room several times. Other things: trackpad is on par with Apple machines in my opinion. The red nipple was really sensitive and would probably take some time to get used to but I do see myself using it due to convenience. Also, after seeing videos of it, I was skeptical of the keyboard rising feature which looked a bit fragile online. I thought it felt just as sturdy and durable as any other part of the laptop. A nice surprise there.

I have nothing bad to say about this thing. Was worried about the weight beforehand because some reviews make it out to be pretty heavy but in my experience it felt extremely light for a laptop. Anyway, ordered it online today because I want digitizer version. Super excited. i7 4500U, 256gb, dual band wireless.

Isn't this a bit of a showstopper, unless you only use Metro apps, have such good eyesight that you can see at 100% scaling or spend most of your time plugged into an external monitor? Is the blurryness really that noticeable?

Could you please explain the distinction between Window auto dpi scaling and the manual scaling you refer to, as I've never had Windows 8 and don't understand? Thanks.

i will try to get confirmation from Lenovo about the water spill resistant aspect of the Yoga. But i have disassembled the Thinkpad Yoga, and there is no water drainage channel, and there is also lot of perforation around the keyboard lifting mechanism which allows the water to pass into the main motherboard area.

You are right, thank you for understanding. No need to respond to such people when they don't even know how to write / talk to others. I am a member of this forum for so many years and help others without 'acting too smart' :) As I said, I must have seen most of Lisa's reviews, I just wanted to compare and see the feedback. But I believe that they are both great machines...

Thank you so much for the feedback. Yes I have read about the wifi and fan noise issue. But those are things that can be fixed in the future with an update (atleast the fan issue; since even Lisa conformed that there is no need for the fan to run, knowing that it is cool enough).

It is true. This issue has nothing to do with the machine. Its related to windows 8.1 scaling making things on your screen look blurry. I had that problem immediately after installing windows 8.1 in several machines and increasing the size of dpi to 125 (auto). I too noticed that if you tick mark 'Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays' and set it to 125, it will be looking as clear as it should be. For those who don't know how to reach there: Right click on the desktop / Personalize / On the left side of the window down you have an option to click on the 'Display'.

    Hi Guys,

Does anybody know some tutorial about those mini sata caches we have in the TPY? If i install a completely clear windows 8.1 do i have to install some programs for the OS to use that thing. I remember somebody wanted to use it with ssd to spare the load on it with hybernation. Wouldnt it be easier to partition it and use to store the pagefile and hybernation file alone (if its possible of course). If anybody done it before please reply.

Thanks all - this has been a great thread while awaiting delivery of my TPY.

I've never used a digitizer, so some questions... what's the best note-taking software for windows - recommendations? if I want to purchase a heftier aftermarket digitizer pen, how do I know which ones will work with the TPY? And what features should I look for in an aftermarket pen? (eraser, for eg?)

I've setup a second SSD on my home XP machine to act as a cache for hybernation and all temp files. I had to go through many settings in windows to change where the page file sits and where the temp directories are. Never done it yet on windows 8.1 but I plan to. I believe there's also hyperfetch you turn on and set where that goes.

I would suggest you head over to the TabletPCReview forums - they're a lot more knowledgeable when it comes to digitizers and machines like the Yoga.

As for your questions, I personally think OneNote is the best of those programs, and for other pens, go over here - TabletPC Compatible Wacom Pens (Work with Surface Pro)

I can confirm this. OneNote is awesome. For Linux, the only real alternative that I know of would be Xournal.

As for alternative digitizers, from what I know, most Wacom ones should work since the Yoga uses a Wacom chip for digitizers.

Does anyone have an estimate on their battery life?

MobileTech reports 6 1/2 -- much lower than earlier Lenovo claims of 8+.

Used my Thinkpad Yoga last Friday on my seminar. Starts at 9 am and goes until 5 pm. Used my TBY the whole seminar with min. brightness and Wifi on. At the end of the seminar the battery was by 2%. The last two hours I used the PowerButton to disable the Display.
So I believe the battery lasts 8-9 hours in min. Brightness and modererate use (I used only OneNote + Chrome).

Edit: Ohh, I found the FN-Lock on the TBY. I love it!

yeah, I heard that most wacom pens should work too, but does anyone know if I use the Wacom Pro Pen from the Intuous line can I get its full features to work on the TPY? i.e. not only the pressure sensitivity, that is a given, but also other things such as tilt and rotation detection?

99% they dont work with the Yoga or any other TabletPc with digitizer. (maybe with Cintiq companion but thats different).
I read the pen topic and there was a compatibility link for wacom pens here: http://www.wacom-asia.com/aptky/607/pen.htm. The new pens for Intuous and Cintic looked so cool and confy that i wanted them too but no love for tablets yet. Read the topic here: TabletPC Compatible Wacom Pens (Work with Surface Pro)

Out of curiousity, since you seem to be rather happy with your TPY, do you also have the digitizer inaccuracy at the edges of the display?

OneNote hands down the best, I prefer the desktop version because when I tested the Metro version earlier this year it was kinda laggy. Then again I was using a CloverTrail tablet and from what i've seen OneNote on metro is very good now.

Give the metro one a try as its much more touch friendly with all the menu systems, and if you don't like it use the desktop version which is also very very nice.

How many variants/models are there for Thinkpad Yoga ?

In Australia, there's two options for the screen.
    1) 12.5“ FHD IPS (1920 x 1080), 10-finger Multitouch Display with combined WACOM digitiser pen

    2) 12.5“ FHD IPS (1920 x 1080), 10-finger Multitouch Display, Anti-Smudge

It surprises me when Option 1 is cheaper than Option 2, since it comes with the digitser pen. Why is that so ?

oh and for Option 2, does Anti-Smudge means "anti-glare" ?

Anti-smudge means anti-fingerprint on screen. There are other configuration options, like SSD vs. HDD, i3/i5/i7, 4/8GB of RAM etc, it is strange though that the digitizer version is cheaper than the one without. What are the other specs of them in comparison?

Here's a cool video I found of someone using a pen in onenote 2013. It covers a lot that you can do in it. He's using a surface pro, but the yoga probably performs similarly. The inking of the pen looks super smooth! I plan to get the office suite to use with this when I can finally pick one up in another month or two.

I noticed most Thinkpad Yoga's available outside of Lenovo don't come with a stylus. Will I be able to buy one separately later? Is the screen missing whatever wacom technology needed to pull this off in these models?

AFAIK nope, wacom pen will not work on such models.

Think about this: the screen is expensive part, if screen is capable, lenovo could have sell it a tiny bit higher with a pen included.

In my X220 I had an internal WWAN 3G modem. Any idea if there's room/a socket for this in the TPY? Ideally, I want to move the modem from my X220 to my TPY.

I really miss that seamless connectivity.

Thanks. I wonder how the battery life of my i5 model will be. Estimated arrival date is this Thursday.

He/she is probably wondering if you have that weird issue where it won't write a straight line near the top of the screen. It was posted here a couple of pages back. Sounds like you don't have that issue, which is great!

In this particular case probably not. All of the models in this particular model that have a digitizer already come with a pen. The pen also isn't the most important part it's the digitizer panel. If I'm not mistaken, I know the Helix sometimes didn't come with a pen, but most models had a digitizer panel. This is not the case with the TPY. I say probably, because you might be able to swap out the panel in the future as parts become available and swap your non-digitizer panel, to one with a digitizer, but I don't see this anytime soon. And I'm not sure about incompatibilities.

So if the digitizer is important to you, then I'd purchase a model with it, and not try to retrofit one on later.

    Just my 2 cents.

But to be honest, if I find NFC is important to me, I might try to Jerry Rig it on my TPY ;)

Exactly the same dispatch and delivery dates here - I ordered on the 20th Nov from the UK. At least this means that we may well receive units that don't need the 'black hole' firmware update - but presuming that was indeed the case, it is anyone's guess whether that would simply mean the firmware update was applied at the factory, or whether they had actually revised the hardware!
