Is Lenovo the only laptop maker that has these very useful features, such as keyboard light and HDD active shock protection system? Thanks!

macbook pro has an illuminated keyboard.

I am not sure about the keyboard light, but there are definitely other notebook manufacturers using HDD shock protection systems - i.e. Toshiba:

MacBooks have accelerometer based HD protection as well, at least in the Pro models.

thinkpads were first to implement theses technologies but other MFG's have since copied them and improved on them(mac book pro's illuminated keyboard is sweet). however, the semi-rugged build of the thinkpad is in a class of its own. Thinkpads also come with a suite of tools that make the laptop a pleasure to use.

The ThinkLight is wayyyyy cooler than a illuminated keyboard to me.

wow i like this "The protection level is temporally maximized 10 seconds after actions such as closing the LCD or unplugging the AC adaptor on the assumption that the notebook may be shortly picked up. The 3D sensitivity will also automatically go up as the tilt angle increases. The HDD Protection toolbar indicates whether the Toshiba protection is working, and whether the head load/unload process is working correctly. Upon detection of a potential fall or vibration, an information message will pop-up informing the user of the risk."

I believe Dell Latitudes have a red Thinklight style keyboard light. They supposedly say its better to have it red so your eyes stay adjusted in dark environments.

Has anyone here even found their thinklight to be useful? Maybe mine isn't positioned right but it does not seem to illuminate the keyboard all that much...

Every business-class notebook has HDD shock absorber (usually 3D motion sensor), also there are HDDs with built-in shock protection.
As for the ThinkLight, I thought it was a joke at the beginning but then I found it very useful and now I miss that feature every time when I use a different notebook. -

I use the light constantly on the X61. The point for me, is not to illuminate the entire laptop in a bright way, but rather just make the keyboard visible enough to write in very dark conditions.
I used it a lot on my T60 as well. It is extremely useful on flights when they turn off all the lights. You can of course turn on the reading lamp, but sometimes it is too bright - i.e. unpleasant. Another thing is courtesy towards sleeping passengers around you.
The ThinkLight comes very handy in those situations.
Lenovo ThinkPad proprietary features?
