Which is unrealistic unless you have switchable graphics. Also according to two users it's more like 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Following the Tabook that would translate to 4 1/4 - 5 hours with the 9-cell battery and 8 1/2 - 10 hours with the 9-cell plus slice battery).
So the Intel GPU needs to use half the power of the Nvidia GPU to reach 20 hours...![]()

FYI:
My T410 uses a Samsung 1.8" SSD (MMCRE28G8MXP-0VBL1-VBM1EL1Q). -
has anyone tested the the speed without the AC power and confirmed the same speeds as with the AC power (cpu speeds)?
Thanks, -
Thanks everyone for answering my question about the battery life!
So should I always use both batteries together to maximise things? I've never used Lenovo's stuff before, so I really don't know. But 5 hours on average with the 9-cell is still better than my current laptop, which is averaging barely 2 hours.
-
Runs with Turbo up to 3.06Ghz -
-
I tried both. They use different HDD cartridges. -
No. The 1.8" fits with a caddy
-
Now I just need to wait for the w710 to come out... hope it is not longer than 3 months.
This laptop looks like a real winner compared to all of the other problems the dell,hp,and sony people are seeing with their new laptops. -
Is there an SD card reader on the t410? is there an option to add it? I looked but couldn't really see anything.

thanks tinyRK and lpkcampion

Thanks,

the 1.8" sits in a little adapter, and so does actually the 2.5".
The SSD I have in my T410 is a 1.8" sitting in such an adapter, but to use a 2.5" drive you need a different adapter.
Here are some pics, so you can see what I am trying to explain:

Another thing I noticed:
all parts, the 500GB HDD, the SSD, the memory etc. are all manufactured in the 2nd week of January 2010. So I can understand that there were issues in the supply chain.
I had a T410 here with a 500GB 7k2rpm HDD, which, if I remember right, had another cage than the one with the one I now have.
The 1st one had a steel cage, the one with the SSD has a magnesium cage .
With cage I mean the piece between the plastic of the palm rest and the HDD.
But in the end I might be wrong. -
How many degrees is it possible to open the lid?
Is it possible to make it completely flat (180 degree)? __.l -> __./ -> __.__
Its very convenient when you are working on external displays and are still using the laptop keyboard.
Also can anyone check CPU usage when playing 1080i HD material? and maybe fan noise level compared to idle. -
Can anyone check if the T410 has a "powered always on" 2.0 usb on its right side?
#4 <----- -
Yes, like your pic shows, it is Nr. 4 - makes it the right side.
-
Would a T410 owner be kind enough to report what FireWire chipset is in the laptop (i.e. what does it say in the device manager for IEEE 1394). Thanks.

Could anybody kindly check if there is any HDMI output, and what's the number of audio output ports?
I am also interested in the comments post by BrokenArrow earlier:
" comparing the discrete graphic computer vs. the integrated one, i see no REAL difference (delta of mere 50 pts.). more to it, in some of the tests the intel integrated one get higher scores.... a bit dissappointing."
Could anybody provide a little bit more insight on this?
Thanks! -
Also, does anyone know what's up with some of the T410-models sold (in Europe?) being listed with "NVIDIA N10M-NS" and sometimes "Intel 5 INT NVIDIA N10M-NS"? See here and here as two examples. -
Are you guys serious about the 2.5 to 3 hour battery? I was thinking of returning my envy for a T410, hoping for better battery life, but if it is basically teh same then why bother?
The nice thing with lenovo is that with the coupons and the discounts, the i7 620M is a pretty cheap upgrade. mmmmm.... 3.33ghz turbo. -
The good folks over at Notebookcheck have tested out several Arrandale processors (i7, i5, i3) and found the i5-540m (17.6-20.5 W idle, 50.5 W max) to be a fair bit more power efficient than the i-7-620m (26.5-30.2 W idle, 64.7 W max) while taking a hit of only about 10% in performance (e.g., PC Mark Vantage: 5575 vs 6062, respectively). Something to consider if getting maximum battery life or reducing your carbon footprint is important.

And etyou ask such a question? -
there is no optical audio out :/
-
@PaAra it seems that you can turn the lcd 180°
http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/T410/index.html
-> in their videos the display is 180°
oh i mean 180 °^^ sry -

T400s opened: http://www.thinkpads.com/wp-content/gallery/thinkpad-t400s/lenovo_thinkpad_t400s_flat.jpg
I'm sure there are no big changes to the area around the hinges and the hinges themselves.
Edit: Some hi-res images of the T410(s)/T510: http://photos.ecetera.si/Lenovo/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T410-T510/10879843_SHH5T#759339983_3az6v (mouse-over and click on 'Original'). -
Yes, 180 degrees are possible: __.__ -
Great thanks

The HP 8840w which is almost identical to the T410
Cpu: 2.66-GHz Intel Core i7-620M
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional
RAM/Expandable to: 4GB/8GB
Hard Drive Size/Speed: 320GB/7,200 rpm
Optical Drive: DVD+/-RW
Graphics: Nvidia Quadro FX 380M graphics/512MB
Display Size/Resolution: 14.0 inches/ 1600 x 900
But it manage 6 hours and 36 minutes of runtime on a 9 cell battery (100wh)
The T410 manages 4:56 with its dedicated graphics...
4:56 vs 6:36 both has simmilar batteries, both use a dedicated GPU. But the Lenovo was using a weaker i5 520 vs Hp i7 620m. And the Nvidia Quadro FX 380M in the HP has a higher TDP then the nvs 3100m
Something is severely wrong with Lenovo's power management.
EDIT: The HP battery is 100wh while the T410 battery is 95/94wh -
-
I don't think you can rate "Lenovo's power management" by comparing two machines with different batteries (although not significant different: 100Wh vs. 94Wh and 55Wh vs. 48Wh), GPUs, and CPUs.
Also note: the TDP value says nothing about power consumption when idling (that goes for GPU and CPU). -
-
Not merely big enough difference to make such a big difference.
And since the hardware is similar, it is most likely due to the power management.
It looks like the HP underclocks the CPU or/and GPU when it is unplugged -
my HP envy 15 i5 520M is capped at 1.2ghz when unplugged, so it may well be the case.
-

DisplayPort is its own port ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort). The T410 doesn't have HDMI. DisplayPort->HDMI cables are cheap though.

Edit: Sorry I see this was already pointed out. -
You can get Display Port to HDMI converters though if you are looking to hook it up to a TV.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't see the other replies -
So, T410 owners. Final verdict. Is the t410 a good machine and worth the purchase?

Yeah. I think it's differently worth it considering you can pick it up fully loaded for roughly $1000 compared to Dell computers.
The keyboard fairly solid, although it takes a little bit of time to get used to compared to the X61 Tablet keyboard that I have. It has no flex, and each key feels like it's individual. I think they changed the layout, so it takes some time to get used to, and I prefer typing on my Tablet at least in the interim.
Build quality is pretty solid. I don't feel any flex on the machine at all, and pushing the back of the screen doesn't produce any ripples either. Hinges are impressive (although I'm coming from the X61, so anything is impressive compared to a single plastic hinge).
The only thing I would say is that I'm not impressed by the i7 yet in terms of its multitasking ability. I've run into programs freezing a bit too frequently for my liking over these two days of having the machine.
To answer the question below: No, it's on the side. There's nothing on the main computer.
I have one qualm. The battery life for the discrete model is terrible compared to the T400. I was expecting something more than 5 hours given how much hoopla and praise there was for the T400's battery life. -
If I am reading PaAra's picture right, the microphone/ audio jack(s??) are at the bottom on the screen?? Whaat?.. The wires then have to snake around on the keyboard getting stuck in my fingers??
Hope its just late for me, and am seeing things!
-
14 are the microphone slots. The jack is on the side -

Is it possible to get the discrete graphics option with a 6-cell battery?
If you select the t410 w/ the nvidia card, it only allows you to choose a 9-cell battery. But the review and people on this forum are talking about how much battery life the discrete graphics version gets with the 6-cell battery..
I'm a little concerned that the 9-cell batter, sticking out of the back will make it that much trickier to fit into bags and such.. I'd probably just use the nvidia card when plugged in anyways, so the 9-cell isn't really necessary for me..
