    Hello everyone,

I was wondering what SSD would be compatible with Thinkpad T480. I'm planning on ordering the T480 with a HDD (and 4 gb RAM) to save some money, as Lenovo charges a lot for its SSDs.

Since I've never installed the M.2 SSD by myself, I was wondering if this ADATA SSD would be compatible : https://amzn.to/2JykjnP.

Also, please feel to recommend other cheap M.2 512 gb (even higher) SSDs that are compatible with T480. I prefer the cheaper SATA SSDs to the more expensive NVMes.

I am also planning on buying a used 16gb RAM from Ebay and adding it to the existing 4gb RAM.

I guess the right way of framing my question would be "What is the form-factor of M.2 SSD for T480?".

2280 SSD, but you'll need the adaptor chassis, since it replaces the SATA 2.5" position entirely. The WWAN slot (2242?) can also be used, but I don't know to what effect (i.e, can it be used as a boot drive).

Thanks for the info. Doesn't the caddy adapter already come with the HDD?

I want to remove my HDD and place in the SSD and then completely reinstall Windows there.

if the wan slot is unoccupied - a 2242 nvme (pretty sure its nvme but wort checking with lenovo) is supported. just buy a sata ssd for the 2.5 inch bay as you only get 2 lanes from the nvme caddy conversion and you pay a whole lot more for that.

buy m2 sata with a diy caddy from ebay and save heaps. vs a nvme which means u have to get the specialised cable from lenov which is often $$$ plus waiting time.
