    Hey hey

I just ordered a T61P and am waiting for it to arrive. I got the T9300 Core 2 Duo 2.5 with an 800MHZ FSB. I want to put in DDR800 (PC6400) but i am not sure if its going to work at the 800mhz speed as it should. Has anyone tried this and been successful? What happened? Did it clock back gayly to 667? Were you able to turn it back up to 800?
I built it to be as fast as possible as i do alot of vmware emulation and various other things. My goal was to have 4GB of ram.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Andrew

it will clock itself back to 667 since i think the chipset does not support ddr800 ram.

    that's right.
Regarding the 4Gb ram, make sure you have a 64-bit OS.

Is it actually worth it to use 4Gb of RAM? Or is 2Gb fine?

now this is perhapse a silly question.... but why?
i mean is it likely that a firmware/bios update could fix this? should i have waited til the new thinkpads are rolled out? whenever that is...
would i even notice a difference in 667-800 speeds honestly? is it something i should be pissy about?

BIOS update won't fix it, the chipset was design that way.
If you're not in a hurry, might as well cancel the order and wait for the new thinkpads, which should be out soon.
For most people, there isn't much gain in performance between the two.

Good enough for me, then. when playing games, where does the bottleneck appear? GPU? RAM? HD speed?

HD speed will only affect the loading times of levels really.
the bottleneck appears at the GPU on my T61p.
