By name, it's the successor to the U330 - however, it isn't spec-wise.

Agreed. I'm *much* more interested to see Lenovo follow through with a U330 refresh.

I don't see anything wrong with the 350's price point. I'm just in the market for a different machine. An X200 with a 13" screen, and maybe an optical drive - but for less $$ than an x301. The 330 comes reasonably close, but needs a newer processor and maybe a light appearance refresh. When I saw a "350" announced, my first thought was that Lenovo was reading my mind :)

Then I saw that it was a different machine, meant for a different market altogether...

Totally agreed. I actually need an optical drive.

Hopefully that's the case. It would suck if this U350 is actually meant to be the U330 refresh as they appear to be in the same model family, what with their model numbers being so close (at least that's how Dell denotes their refreshes).

I mean its a gorgeous looking machine... but I would pay an extra 300 bucks for a decent processor and some graphics.

If they dont refresh the U330, the U350 might as well be a Timeline.

I would still take the Y450 or Studio 14z over it for performance and the slightly reduced battery life/portability.

Will the U350 have an external drive standard like the U110? It is a shame that they wont introduce a U110 or U350 in a 12in form factor, because of the S12. It would have been nice to get a C2D or C2S 12in laptop from Lenovo.

So when do you guys think that Lenovo would introduce some refreshed laptops, like an update to the U330, but in slightly smaller package(like the Vaio Z), faster cpu, and gpu. I really want to get the Lenovo U110, but the fact that the GPU is kind of old and the screen could be better is a making me look at other options.

Just launched in Lenovo USA, but only with a SU2700 and not starting price at 650 USD. Merde!! What happened with the SU3500? Although I prefer something more power, like SU9600.

I don't think they will ever release Core 2 Duo versions not to compete with X-series.

I'm very disappointed. I've been waiting for this laptop to come out since reading about it at the end of May. Maybe they're just building the site but you can't even customize anything. The processors suck. The site lists it as Core 2 Duo processors when they're clearly Pentium ULVs. There's not even the option of a SU9400 or SU9600 like the Acer. It starts at $699 and not $649. At least Bluetooth is included in the price. I'll wait for a review and for the page to update. Hopefully the prices/specs will be more reasonable.

I think we are all lossing our time with this U350, expecting what will not be, but... what a beautiful machine!! I would pay more than US$1.300 for one of this with a Core 2 Duo and a ligt keybord.

I agree. If it gets good reviews, I would strongly consider this despite its horrible design lid cover.

I found this link about the U350 but only just pictures of more views than what is on Lenovo's website.

That is one sexy looking laptop. Too bad battery life is claimed at 4-5 hours for 4 cell battery. Adding the 8 cell battery would probably make it bulky. :(

Also, does anyone know if Lenovo is participating in the Windows 7 free upgrade?

I think people should start reviewing this laptop! :)

i am baffled with lenovo's spec on this laptop. lenovo states the laptop includes a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU2700 ULV Processor ( 1.30GHz 800MHz 2MB ). when i researched it, there is no such processor.

    there is only Intel® Pentium® Processor SU2700 (2M Cache, 1.30 GHz, 800 MHz FSB).

so this is a pentium processor and not a core 2 duo processor. kind of weakened the deal. there also no option for an 8-cell battery. the chinese thread shows an option for 8-cells.

anyone ordered it yet? taking forever for a proper review.

lenovo says it will take more than 4 weeks to ship it.... wow

I'm thinking the performance will be similar to the MSI X340- LINK. More capable than a netbook, but factor in the requisite Vista OS and it's not all that great....

The 13.3" Acer Aspire Timeline AS3810T is available with the 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 and performance is substantially better than any of the CULV single-core processors...and they kept the price under $900!

Looks great in the photos and very competitive with other similar CULV ultra-portables. But the Acer Aspire AS3810T raises the bar among this category by offering the 1.4GHz Dual Core SU9400!

I purchased it a few days ago for $799 w/ $175 off coupon, $691.00 after taxes. Then after not being able to get it until Aug 15 and doing some more research on its inner workings, Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU2700 ULV Processor, I decided to cancel the order and get a dell studio 14z instead. Its appearance is very nice though.

More like an overview...not really a review...

Wish it came with an external DVD-R/RW drive. Does it? Also, how's the performance of the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo SU3500 ULV Processor? I see its available in Core 2 Duo...what is that equivalent to? Could I watch DVD movies and multitask as well with this CPU?

**Checked Intel's website, it's actually a Core 2 Solo? What's up with Lenovo's site with the misleading info. I was seriously considering it...but not if its a solo.

The Solos aren't that bad - it's still a very good CPU, just with one core. Much better than an Atom. Watching movies and low multitasking (word processing while browsing while making a spreadsheet) is no issue... can be done on an Atom.

Watching movies stored locally, but streaming video might be more difficult. I noticed yesterday that streaming HD video using Flash takes up to 50% of one core on my notebook. If the math is as simple as I think, that's equivalent to bringing a 1.2 CPU to its knees and giving a 1.4 CPU literally everything it can handle...

I know some folks really like the looks of the U350, but I think a lot of them would be better served by your U330, Knight :)

    some comments,

don't expect su9400 is an awesome and powerful processor, instead, it's so weakkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk and slow. I finally decide to get a new laptop with at least 2.0G.

I have been owned x300, x301, and currently using e4200.

CORE 2 DUO SU9400 is just a name , doesn't mean it's fast. Because it's only 1.4 G, no mater it's core 2 duo, or whatever, a 1.4g processor is very very slow.

So if you want to pay the 300 extra to get a timeline with SU9400, I 100% tell you this is not a good decision.

Also,I don't think the SU2700 will have big differentfrom su9400. What su9400 can do , su2700 suppose to be OK.

    so, how slow a su9400?

with a 128 GB SSD, run 10 to 13 fps inWOW with minimize setting

use vista capture tool, have to wait 30 to 40 seconds!

Open up 3 more programs, like word, outlook, power point, when I tried to save my document by word, it takes 7 to 10 seconds to get done.

BTW: U350 is not for heavy duty, if you plan to use it convert HD video , I suggest you get a powerful one.

But if you only use it do web suffering, light task and listen music. Well, this is perfect for you. Although, a atom also can be done all above these difficulty.

This is major reason , why Intel delay the new atom and not allow nvidia to sell its ION chipest.

Intel want you to buy ULV processors!!!!

WoW has to do more with the gpu than the cpu. The ulv C2D vs the Core 2 Solo the c2d is still better because you can run two software at the same time more efficiently, and its going to run stuff just faster in general.

I actually have a U350 bought from Newegg. They had it in stock and came pretty quick. Fry's Electronics will also carry it pretty soon according to their site. My opinion...you do not need a 2-3Ghz processor to do internet browsing, write papers and do photo/video editing. I find it funny people wanna call it a slow system and never tested it. Honestly cannot see a difference opening Firefox, MS Word or other apps with the SU2700 and the Core 2 Duo E7400 on my desktop. So I doubt going with a Core 2 Duo ULV will do much good for the everyday user. Just move to Windows 7 to get best performance and batter life.

U350 is a better product than the Acer Timeline. Looks better and the build quality is solid. Rumor is Lenovo will add an 8 cell battery next month and that will blow away the Acer. Very light and easy to carry around. Screen size is perfect..not to small and not to big. If you need an optical drive just get an external one and you will be surprised how you will never use it. Intel 5100 wireless on it works great too and gets much better signal quality than other notebooks I had. Router I have does not even have "N" wireless.

mike.az, which CPU did you get? Also, does YouTube play smoothly on full screen? While watching YouTube HD in full screen? I am looking to purchase this, but am waiting for a good review.

I watch a lot of HD YouTube in FULLSCREEN. Anyway you could please test it out for me? Thanks.
