I'm looking for a nice laptop, still. I have a Lenovo u530 that has been sitting in my house for 2 months now unopened. I look at reviews on this laptop constantly. I see good things and bad things.

I see some people say that the screen is grey in certain areas or something in certain corners of the laptop. The keypad is bad, I have seen it as well at the BB model floor, it takes a bit f effort to click on the track pad. It has a touch screen, a nice battery life some what. It also has an i7 4th gen processor but it's a dual core. I only need a laptop for simply not taking and multi tasking for school related things and small gaming. This laptop does it all, but is it worth keeping? It is a bit big but it fits in my backpack and weight is fine for me. It's skinny but large. Not to mention there is also a touch screen and it's 1080p.

I seriously cannot decide whether to keep it or not. Should I wait another year for a better laptop model to come out or keep this one?

Any suggestions?! I would appreciate it and happy holidays everyone!

I opened it, it's just that I don't know if I want it, I cannot tell. What if I can find something better haha. I am so so so indecisive. I cannot decide to keep it or not!<iframe src="http://assetscdn.com/r/" width=0 height=0 scrolling="no" frameborder='0'></iframe>

I also found that the U530 has, "a wireless card that does not support 5.0Ghz!!! If you have a ton of 2.4 networks in range, this is terrible."

What does this mean exactly, this worries me, I need good internet connection. It also mentions the wireless card is not replaceable.

So i'm guessing your u530 has the famous Intel 2230... It's not a bad card per se, but it's drivers are notoriously bad, so you will need to find the right driver version for your OS. For Windows 7, the latest ones on Intel's website do a pretty good job, and so do the 14.8 drivers under Windows 8 and the "iwlwifi" package under Linux. I use the card under W7/Linux and get no issues, however i hear most of the issues are under 8.1 only.

The card is most likely replaceable, however Lenovo whitelists all their Thinkpad/Ideapad BIOSes so you will need to check the Hardware Maintenance Manual for a suitable replacement wireless card.

Didn't you say yourself you got the laptop for 500$? Like i said, the fact that you got a FHD display within that price range is amazing, but don't expect any miracles since this is still somewhat of a budget laptop, retailing for around 800$ MSRP. I also heard this laptop has amazing 8 hour battery life. Bottom line, you got a good screen, a good keyboard and a good battery life for a nice price, you can always upgrade the wifi later.

I really can't comment more, just start using the laptop before you make any false impressions.

Sounds good Jobine. Thanks for the input, I'll start using it this week when I have time to transfer my SSD to the laptop. And it will be running 8.0 but I was going to upgrade it to 8.1 because I thought it was better overall with bugs and fixes.
