Hi everyone, I'm a student looking for a reliable laptop what will last me, but I'm on a budget. I'm therefore looking at ThinkPads from the Lenovo outlet (UK).

However, I've been looking for a couple of weeks and the outlet always seems to have nothing in stock. Is this usually the case? Is there likely to be anything in stock over the next month or so?

    Thanks!

Yeah there's not much to shout about with the Lenovo Outlet, not only the range of stock is limited but prices are generally uncompetitive. In my experience I find better deals for ThinkPads on places such as eBay for example. Recently I found a listing from a seller with 100% feedback rating selling 9x BNIB ThinkPad T450 with 3 yrs Transferable Depot Warranty for £495 each which is over £600 cheaper than buying the same thing from Lenovo directly.

If you are not fussed with the latest and greatest and don't plan to do anything strenuous like gaming or 3D Modelling work for example then you can stretch your budget further by going for a slightly older system such as the xx20 or xx30 generation models. Typically robust for most uses with plenty of power for office work and media playback, since many of these machines have been leased back from companies there should be plenty of second hand bargains about.

My own T420 has taken a beating over the years - it’s been dropped, bashed and stood on but it works fine and I still use it regularly to this day (I'm typing on it actually). Of course most likely these machines will be out of warranty but with prices starting around £150 for the xx20 generation models it may be worth a punt for the budget minded person with plenty of potential for upgrades such as more RAM and a speedy SSD to keep up with the times.
