    Hello there,

I would like to order this adapter, but does it really fit with my Lenovo W520? Is it compatible?

Because in this pdf of the W520 at the bottom it shows this optional power adapter, so I think it should go.

Thanks in advance and Greetings from Switzerland

It may barely be possible to run a W520 with a dual core i7 and the 1000M on the 90W adapter. I would be surprised if it ran without throttling however.

I am almost certain that a quad core configuration will not run on this adapter at all.

It seems that a 90W adapter can charge a W520 battery when the machine is off, but has insufficient power to work with the laptop while it is on.

    I would go for the i7 2720Q and the 1000 M

So if I use this 90 W adapter, I wouldnt use it for loading up while I sleep, I would use it during my lessons at school.

Does it load up the laptop? Also if the laptop goes down faster than the power adapter can load it up?

    Thx

mrpeaches answer to you is correct. The adapter will not power the laptop while you are using it but it will charge it at night when the laptop is off.

Ah crap! Why can't Lenovo produce a small and light power adapter for the W520!

This is incredible! Is there any other smaller power adapter than the original?

    Thanks.

This is not really a Lenovo issue. This is an issue with you purchasing a laptop full of power hungry components that will have to draw that power from somewhere. The possibilities for this are either to place more of the power supply internal to the laptop (terrible idea for both weight and thermal considerations) or ship the laptop with a larger adapter rated to safely provide enough power to your components.

I have heard reports of the W520 running just fine off the 135W adapter if saving some size and weight is a serious issue for you. No guarantees on how it'll work for you, but I haven't heard of any problems yet with your configuration.

The 135W adapter works for me. Its somewhat smaller but a tad heavier than the 170W adapter.

Ich actually is NOT! Because the w510, which draws AT LEAST as much power as the more energy efficient w520, does run pretty well on the Ultraslim AC. After I upgraded to the 520, this pretty expensive piece of equipment became totally usesless because of what seems to be a deliberate and very unfortunate design decision to me.
Actually I love the w520, it is a lot better than the w510, but this single drawback is a major nuisance when you are working on the train a lot, like I do.

The slim AC 90 watt adapter is close to useless when I use it with my W510, the computer gets so slow that's almost impossibly to use.

I just use the 135W - works even with the 2720QM, 2000M with 16GB RAM, RAID and 1080p resolution.

I think the 170 is required if you up the proc to the Xtreme model.

I think you should be thankful for the size of the adapter considering what you're asking from it. If you're to use regular single transformer type adapter then it would weigh close to a car battery and about that big, and I bet you will not like that at all.

90W for using with W520 is not going to be enough.
