**** this sucks. I got a Lenovo V100 about 3 weeks ago and now just today I have a dead pixel. The website says that I need to have 8-9 faulty pixels before they will replace it under warrenty. Now I dunno if i should hope that another 7 go or if i should be hope that this is the only one. You think that a dead one so seen is a sign of a bad LCD? And what causes dead pixels exactly? Witchdoctors?
-
They just happen thats all. Maybe it is witchdoctors
I wasn't up to date on Lenovos dead pixel policy until just last night when I was reading a different thread, and personally such a high number such as 9 makes me a bit nervous that they would make it such a high number as if they were stating its common or something, and they made that policy to save on money.
Theres nothing you can really do to fix the dead pixel, so according to Lenovo that one dead pixel isn't a bad LCD. -
Doesn't Lenovo have a 30 day return policy? Maybe you can't return it due to the pixel, but what if something else was wrong with the computer too.... ?
Also, I remember hearing that it's possible for dead pixels to be caused by software problems. I have no idea how, but maybe someone else knows more about that. Just grasping at staws here, maybe try updating the bios or video driver? -
It is not unusual to have a dead pixel or two nor is requiring more than a couple for replacement. I rarely notice the ones on my LCDs, only when the screen is black. I don't think it is symptomatic of a larger problem. Unfortunetly they have not perfected the LCD manufacturing process to where they can make the without any dead pixels.

**** this ****, its just getting irritating. Another week and now a pixel has just turned always on blue. Why do cell phone LCD's never get bad pixels?
-
Smaller screen so there is less chances of you getting a bad one? Thats a guess.
Just call them up and tell them you want to return it. Reason = you decided to get a different machine from them. -
I got one stuck pixel on my z61t. Doesn't bother me at all.
7 or 8 may be it's a issue. -
If it is on the side it is not as bothersome.

I feel your pain. I purchased a new Thinkpad T60, which arrived with two dead pixels. Of course, they won't replace the screen, so I exchanged it. My new one arrived with a dead pixel as well. Of course, I'll be returning this one. If more people wouldn't accept screens with flaws like this, it would force them to change their policies.
You're allowed to return the notebook within 30 days for any reason, although you have to fork the bill for sending it back.
I just had two friends purchase Dell notebooks, I inspected both of them, and they arrived with no dead pixels. I'm not a huge fan of Dell, but if they have better quality control than Lenovo, that says something. With that said, I'm disappointed that Dell's latest notebooks aren't compatible with PCMCIA type II cards, they're all using the express card slots now.
Thought I'd chime in on the matter...
Cheers. -
Yeah but the light leakage issue on Dell screens can be just as more annoying than a dead/stuck pixel which you only see when the screen is dark.

My Z61t has a constantly blue pixel, too. I didn't notice it at first because it wasn't there. It comes on pretty consistenly, but if I flex the screen, it goes away for a few hours. I am definitely not going to bother returning my laptop, since the chances of getting one with another dead pixel (or more) are pretty high.
A couple Dell LCD monitors that I have also have a couple of dead pixels each. Ironically, my first LCD monitor, an NEC that I bought 5 years ago, has no dead pixels at all...
You may want to search for something called the "psp dead pixel fixer" or "unsticker" or something. It's this .mov that flashes the three primary colors rapidly in an attempt to jolt it back to life. It probably only works with the more benign defects, but then, you can't really tell what kind you have anyway.
Be glad that your dead pixel is blue. You have no idea how annoying a bright green dead pixel is (on my desktop LCD).
