Lenovo should offer a discount by calling them or going through Government/Edu sales depending on your institution.

I ordered a T2p about four years ago and got almost 30% off. Good luck!

Are you in the US? Try CPP, I do not know about a better deal for W500 than CPP right now. Google is your friend if you don't know about CPP, he knows everything ;)

Looks like a good deal - same configuration on CPP comes out to be approximately the same.

No, the university deal is considerably better than CPP. I configured using CPP a machine with the same specs. The price comes up to $1399 with 1 year depot warranty. The university deal comes with 3 years of depot warranty. the university config is an additional $80 cheaper, once you remove all the education software bundled into the base config. So the real difference is about $200 (about 15%).

P.S. Moreover, the price difference for W700 is even larger. The base model on CPP is $2531 (w/ 1 year warranty). The university price for the same configuration -- $1800 (w/ 3 years warranty).

What is the real difference between the t500 and w500? If you have the same screen and processor (WSVGA+ and T9400), then the difference is the graphic card that is basically the same card with difference drivers, then the W500 is significantly cheaper. Am I wrong on this?

it's not the same card. w500 comes with a 512MB graphic card, whereas T500 with 256MB. That's at the surface... i don't know the specs of each GPU, but wouldn't be surprised if the W500 card is different in other ways as well (GPU/memory frequency, etc.)
