I just received my W500 yesterday and installed aftermarket ram I had ordered off newegg everything fit okay and I was ready to run it, but for some reason when I tilt the laptop, it sounds like there are metal pieces moving around.. I opened it back up and I'm 100% sure I didn't drop anything in there while installing... What could it be? The metal sliding sounds are coming somewhere around the areas left of where the RAM was installed and in the upper-right region of the keyboard, does anyone else have this problem, or is something wrong with my laptop?

Update: I called tech support and sent my laptop in and just received it right now, weird thing is I'm hearing almost the exact noises I sent it in for, while they say two parts have been replaced/repaired. The noises are pretty subtle and come from the lower left region and the upper right region, the upper right region noises come and go. Now I'm wondering if I was making too much of the matter, does anyone else seem to hear little noises from the same two regions in their W500? Having some feedback from someone who owns the same laptop would be of great help!

My brand new W500 arrived the same day yours did, I've been away outside the country for business and haven't even gotten around to open the box yet. I will be opening it this Thursday. I already have a new Crucial RAM module from Newegg waiting to be installed on it (for a total of 4GB).

    Deja Vu yet? haha.
Do you know what they replaced on your W500? I'm curious...

I will update on Thursday when I install the ram and run the laptop for the first time.

I've called in to tech support again and they contacted the depot that did my repair and says they replaced "BASE COVER ASM 4058 WW" and "PC CARD SLOT CARDBUS/EXPRESS C", they also said they found a loose screw which was causing the problem, replaced it and the cover (thus the Base cover I think) which was causing the noise I suppose, but it's still making noises in the same two spots, so I'm definitely wondering if those are just standard noises..

When you look at it for the first time would you mind tilting the laptop, I guess somewhat heavily as these laptops are pretty much meant to be solid, and write here to see if you hear a moving piece in the upper right region that seems to be intermittent, as it comes and goes, and a continual noise on the bottom left corner where the noise is subtle but noticeable?

So far I think the noise from the bottom left is actually normal and just there, while the upper right noise seems to be funky, it seems to come and go (may it be because I'm inducing this noise by tilting it so much or something?) Does anyone know what's the part that's under the "Trademark" information when the laptop is turned around?

I'm really worried about my laptop so as much feedback from all owners/users from this laptop would be greatly appreciated!

Found the solution!!!!! Removed the DVD drive and gave it a shake and there was definitely a piece moving from there! the PC card slot isnt bugging me so much as I think that is perpetual and normal for everyone to hear a little tiny rattle from it, because as I was replacing the RAM I noticed a somewhat movable piece for the PC card slot and I think it's that! Ah, I'm relieved!
