By the time they bring the multitouch option back I won't be interested anymore.![]()

By the time they bring back any of their FHD displays a new model will have been designed, introduced and delivered!!
-
There used to be a place on their website where you can enter the specific model and machine type you want and order it. I cannot find that anymore.
-
I haven't searched through the site to see if I could find the older link, but if you know a specific model and machine type that you want to order, you always have the option of calling the sales line and ordering it that way.

I called to cancel my order on March 8th and somehow my Lenovo online status still reads: In Process

So, anyone know how to contact Lenovo about the status of a laptop I shipped them, when i don't have the RMA #?
They missed their expected return date, so I'm going to raise hell.
Sure, I wasn't here to get it anyway because of my grandpa's funeral, but that's besides the point.
*edit: Apparently, their engineers are still going over my system. At what point can I just tell them to send me a new one? -

its a future treat?
also I have noticed this "Up to 16GB 1333 MHZ DDR3 Memory" while guy in the disassembling maintenance videos says W510 can have max 8GB1333 and 16GB1066 -
If you believe what Intel says it's 8GB 1066/1333 but even Dell has an option for one of their systems saying it supports up to 16GB 1600Mhz.
-
wait so ur saying if i see the 1600CL7 and 1333CL7 selling for the same price i would be a fool to take the lower performer? thats for W510

Great... W510 FHD Multitouch...
Order date: 02/19/10
After placing order there was est. ship date set for: 03/15/10
Was blank for some days as reported here 1-2 weeks ago and came back with same date.
Since today, as assumed because of all former experiences here, it's blank again... not even May... -

I just got my 43192PU with FHD/720QM (Canada/BC).
First impressions:
Built: Very nice. Keyboard has flex on the right side though, a bit of double-sided tape will be needed. Otherwise it feels nice and solid. The keyboard is less noisy than that on my T61p. Hinges are firm.
Screen: Some elements (especially greens) of the desktop are a bit 'nuclear' but in movies the colours are actually very nice. Maybe a bit of colour adjustment will be needed, or 'calming down' the desktop. Didn't notice any other problem with the screen in my first quick look.
Noise: Didn't hear noise from the fan, only from the old disk I stuck in (I just swapped in the backup image disk from my T61p and voila, you're in business. You gotta love Linux). Didn't notice any whining noise from the board.
Linux: Brightness control didn't work with the nvidia binary driver (there's a thread over on nvnews about that). Only 2 (or so, definitely not 8) CPUs showed up in /proc/cpuinfo. Might have to check the BIOS. It did suspend, we'll see whether it wakes up again.
Other: Somebody complained that the 'moon' symbol LED for suspend is gone. But actually the light under the power button is now 'breathing' (like apple has it) when it's on suspend.
A question about Win7 and ThinkVantage: If I ever decide to boot the Win7 disk and mess up that system, can it be reset to factory settings from some kind of recovery partition? Or only from recovery disks I'd have to burn?
Edit: Turns out on of the screws that hold the keyboard wasn't in. I'm sure all you guys are to blame who call lenovo every day to speed up their unit, so they get sloppy.. -
Thanks for your feedback and enjoy the great system!
+1!
<<< Could you check your temps? In linux - lm-sensors, in W7 - HWinfo32 or any other tool you prefer. I'm interested to know the idle temps (CPU and GPU) and @load (you can run some open source game in Linux, like Nexuiz) -
Idle temps (with some compiz eye candy on) are around CPU 49, GPU 45, 2700rpm (hardly audible). After 10 mins of nexuiz and wine+FarCry CPU goes to 60 and GPU 52 with fan at 3700rpm (audible but not disturbing). I'm running on a rather old 2.6.32-rc kernel that was optimized for my T61p, so I'm not 100% sure that the temp that I assume is for the CPU is really the one. It also seems that the hard-coded fan (cooling) policy is rather conservative. I didn't fiddle with any fan speed adjustments or GPU/CPU frequency scaling (both at default 'dynamic'/'adaptive').
Games run very very smooth, screen is evenly lit, no leaking, good viewing angles. After using it for a bit I think the colors are actually the way they're supposed to be, and most of us are indeed just used to screens with limited color reproduction capabilities.
It didn't wake up from suspend properly. USB mouse only works on the USB 2.0 port. It still believes it only has two cores, but identifies as i7-720. That's probably because I didn't think I'd get a quad-core any time soon: CONFIG_NR_CPUS=2. -
Thanks for the info. Very impressive and tempting.
When I pull the trigger it's gonna be either this or some Clevo behemoth with a desktop CPU and SLI/CF (if they offer it fast enough). ThinkPad again...Ubuntu....

Apparently the HD+ has good viewing angles and a 500:1 contrast ratio according to testing. It is a decent screen but for most the less desirable option.
-
Pity no other manufacturer gives 16 GB RAM in FHD else I would have already gone. -
You "claimed" they were fully caught up on orders yet no other postings support your statements.
Something doesn't smell right. -
you cant just cant!!! compare Clevo to a laptop... and HD+ is not adequate res in 16:9 after 16:10
-
Wide gamut is also undesirable for photo editing where the photos will be either viewed on the web or printed on a home photo printer.
Wide gamut *is* desirable when you are printing on a commercial printing press that handles Adobe RGB, such as if you sell your prints to magazines.
A photo edited for Adobe RGB will look terrible on an sRGB monitor, and vice versa.
Where did people come to think that wide gamut is better? Those for whom it is better are an extremely small niche of the computer user world. For everyone else, it's definitely worse. -
I want more info on this topic. I'm currently trying to decide between the HD+ and FHD. To me the resolution doesn't matter, both are adequate. It's the color space I'm concerned about. I do photography as a hobby and I want my screen colors to match my print colors. I have color profiles available for the commercial print system I send my prints off to, but I can't figure out if the colors on a wide gamut screen will accurately portray what I'll see in a print or if it will cause me to under saturate my prints.

at the time i suddenly shipped others on lenovo forums shipped as well. i dont know of anything special about my order, but maybe they just really like us. -
-
I originally ordered a W510 with FHD multitouch in late January. It was delayed and delayed (four times) until the ship date became 5/23/10.
I called Lenovo last week and changed my to HD+ display -- I think I will miss the resolution of FHD, but on the other hand my 15.4" MacBook Pro is 1440 x 1050 and that's a nice screen. I was a bit worried that FHD would actually be too small. And in any case, it doesn't matter because I couldn't wait any longer.
Once I made the change, the ship date was listed as 4/6/10.
And now today, finally a good surprise instead of a bad one! An email just showed up in my inbox saying the laptop has shipped. Wow. So they actually (finally) exceeded an expectation.
So hopefully some computers are moving. The rep did tell me yesterday that "Moving forward we're only offering three display types. HD, HD+, FHD." In other words, no FHD multitouch.
Anyways, hopefully this offers a few of you some hope. -
I don't understand how it could take 3-months to build these displays?
I guess I will be getting my laptop with Office 2010 on it. -
Unbelievable on these shipping delays.
IMO, Lenovo did one or more of these things:
- Made an egregious error when planning the parts schedule. Not having product is a horrible business problem, be it from shortages, labor disputes, etc.
- Lenovo offered the FHD and FHD-Multi options before knowing of supply issues.
- Some large company placed a huge order, causing a downstream effect.
All three of these are part of proper supply chain management (SCM). People do this sort of thing as a career and there are huge companies dedicated to the practice. No other way of looking at it, this is as an example of poor planning.
I'm not looking to snipe now that I've canceled my order, but I feel for those going through the anticipation and disappointment roller coaster. Very painful. -

to be clear, mine and those others were fhd equipped.

Hi there,
Is the 43192PU equipped with a color sensor? I am considering to get one recently.
Thanks,

My w510 is finally arrived!!!
I have trouble installing daemon tools.
"Unable to add adapter"
Can anyone help me with this problem?
The solution from "daemon forum" http://daemonpro-help.com/?id=932
doesnt work for me.
Thanks!! -
My shipping date went from mid-march to early may. I am calm perfectly calm. I will not get upset over a piece of technology.
Damn those mantras don't work at all -
@starkoh: If you just need to use it for basic virtual drive purposes, you can instead try VirtualCloneDrive.
@systemfehler: You can try giving Lenovo a call and see if you can get the date moved forward - some forumers had some luck in getting their orders bumped up. -
-
anybody else getting an a capacitor whine noise from their W510 related to power management?
Mine is doing it and the noise it makes is quite annoying. I think all W510's suffer from this problem -
-
also I have noticed that Noise is more audible if you stick the usb mini transceiver for your mouse in it. but usb 2.0 remains safest place to avoid whine.I cant understand how they test this machines before releasing
-
Isn't using a powered USB port preventing the CPU to enter a deep sleep state which would explain the lesser whine noises. At least I think so. Maybe because Win/Linux can't control the powered ones because they have to provide power all the time instead of the regular ones which can enter some sort of power saving mode.
-
I ordered this morning from laptop authority. Let's see if it will actually arrive.
BTW, I noticed this on lenovo's website: "The NVIDIA® Quadro FX® MXM-based graphics solution on select W Series mobile workstations is stable, compatible and optimized for all professional applications."
