Well I cancled my order since "customer service" wouldnt give me my tax free rebate. They claim that I odered my comp on Aug 5th but I odered it at 12:01am, Aug 6th. After on hold for over 30 mins and talking to 2 different people they couldnt do a damn thing for me so I told them to cancel my order and Im going with a dell or HP. Thanks Lenovo, for nothing!!!!!!!

Really, you're going this nuts over the difference of 1 minute? That's certainly such a small difference that two clocks might not be completely synchronized. No one should rely on such a small difference in time to be the thing that makes or breaks a sale. You should have waited a bit longer so there could be no doubt about it.

Woo, just ordered a W510, 820QM, etc... replacing a T60p, I can't wait for it to ship.
I do have a couple questions, I didn't see this in the thread but might have been searching for the wrong part number.
Is it possible to change an order to just include the 6 cell battery (57Y4185), there was no option on the website when ordering. I rarely use a laptop away from AC power, so the weight and size saving from the 6-cell battery would be nice.
Also, does the W510 come with a spacer for the UltraBay? I will probably upgrade to an SSD at some point and put the regular disk in the expansion bay, but until then I'd like to just keep the spacer in there. -
Im not going nuts, but I dont think I should be charged $117 in tax when I ordered it on a tax free day. Their system says I placed my order at 21:01 and I ordered it at 12:01. I dont know what your problem is, but I think its BS that they would rather not help me when I ordered it in my state durring a tax free weekend.
-
Does anyone in this thread know of a well-fitting sleeve for the W510? I ordered one with 9-cell and FHD. I'd really like a durable sleeve that fits this machine snugly, but the popular sleeves all seem to be fit for other models.
-
SFBags - WaterField Designs - Made in USA has sleeves for the W510.
-
Can't believe memory prices, been a while since I bought laptop mem and I just got 16GB of PC3 10666 memory for $380 shipped. Insanity!
How accurate are Lenovo's shipping estimates? Now I just need somewhere to put this memory
-
Rumor is there is a short supply of RAM, so prices will go up. However, 16GB = 4x4GB modules, and yes, those are very $$. At least 3x the price of 2GB modules.
-
No, I'm amazed at how cheap it is (not from Lenovo of course, it'll always be more from them, or Dell, or whoever you get the laptop from). I just paid $95 each for 4GB modules, which is right at about 2x the price of a 2GB module.
-
Well since I placed my order friday morning, and canceled it on monday the laptop has been shipped as of today with 2 day mail. I decided to keep it anyways, but they still gave me the option to send it back at no charge.
-
Wow, those are really nice. I assume you have one?
-
New BIOS out on Lenovo's support site.
-
Unbelievable! Still no fix for USB 3.0 booting problems.
-
Anyone have problems using some devices such as USB keys in their 3.0 ports?
-
Anybody know if Lenovo's estimated ship dates are accurate? Would love to see this thing show up early.
-
Anybody else getting BSODs? I've been getting a few lately--seems worse since I installed all the recent updates from the Thinkvantage System Update. They're consistent, though. I keep getting a system_service_exception related to file afd.sys.
Anyone else? -
I placed an order according to Lenovo on 8/5, I got an estimated ship of 8/18. I got an email saying it was shipped on 8/10 but when I finally got my tracking information it didnt match what I was told. This is my current shipping status.

Answering my own question a bit -- ordered on 8/7, was given 8/20 as the ship date - shipped on 8/13. Should arrive on Monday!
I heard there's some RAM shortage or something, I did order with the lowest mem available (2GB PC3 8500). Ordered the 820QM, 500GB disk, 2GB mem, 1920x1080 screen, color sensor, no broadband. -
I really doubt its going to arrive on Monday if it shipped 8/13. Look at my new status below, this is with 2 day UPS shipping as well.
Im not trying to be negative, but my delivery dates have changed twice and now I dont even have one. I have to plan for its arrival since it requires a signature.

My W510 was freezing on standby resume and I've got one or two BSOD but it was related to graphics driver as far as I remember. I don't know if you have the same problem but the new BIOS is suppose to fix the resume problem at least.
I've only installed it two days ago, so far so good. -
Anyone update their BIOS yet? Tempted, but don't want a messed up BIOS... which would be the third time on the same system!
-
I'll try that. Thanks.
-
I updated my BIOS...just make sure to do it using the Bootable CD and not the application. This has been stressed time and time again (see earlier posts).
-
I used the bootable cd yesterday. No problem. No BSODs lately, either. Although I was only getting them every couple of days, so who knows?
-
can you please tell me are all your memory banks are filled and how much ram do you have in total?
-
why not change it in bios and then get those fine stickers and solve it like that? people and their silly problems lol
-
I have them all filled with a total of 16GB, and updated with the same procedure.
-
While I know this has been stressed many times, I have had a fscked motherboard that needed to be replaced twice. Once was while updating in Windows 7 and the other was actually from a bootable CD. The latter pissed me off as I had just got the system back from the first failure...
-
Yeah, good idea. Don't know why I didn't think of that since that's what I did on my Mini10v Hackintosh
-
Hmmmm... I still show as "in transit" and "on time" -- been through Anchorage and is in Louisville now. For a while it did not have an arrival date, now it's back to tomorrow. If I reload this UPS page more, it'll move faster, right?
Come on, big money -- no whammies!
Are these shipments out for morning delivery or afternoon? I looked at UPS's site and "World Ease Express" (which is what 2day delivery is) lists 8am... is that correct? -
Look for the Zeroshock 3 (15,4") and Zeroshock Premium (15,4") sleeves which protect the device better and are sturdier than all other sleeves I know are. Despite their designated size of 15,4", both fit very well. I actually like the Premium better (water-proof instead of just water-resistant) but it's a little bit bigger in size and doesn't fit in my backpack which is why I keep them both at home.
-
I've got 4 GB of RAM with 2 free slots.
-
Just wondering ...what are you guys' Network Adapter Driver dates...
Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection
12/10/2009
11.5.10.0
Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
13.1.1.1
1/13/2010
On all previous laptops i have owned, I have always had a shortcut tab/icon on my browser that takes me straight to Google.com. And 10 out of 10 times, when i click on them, google pops up instantly (no lag whatsover).
Ever since i got the W510, for some odd reason, it seems as tho my network hiccups a little when i click on the shortcut to Google. Now its only happens 5 out of 10 times that it would pop up instantly. Its a not a big deal, cuz the wait takes just 1 or 2 secs later. But it just really bothers why its happening.
Im not using Thinkvantage tools for my network. I actually dont have any of that.. i had reformatted the entire system... -
I'm using 13.2.1.5 for the 6300, which I got from Intel's site. The date says May 2010, although the release date was last month. I'm using the Intel 11.6.92.0 (from April 2010) for the network card.
-
Thank you sir! Are you experiencing the problems im having.. Not really a problem per say.. but are you?
-
I didn't have any issues with setting Google as my start page and having it show up immediately. The only reason I wanted the newest drivers is because the ones that came with the laptop didn't seem to give me the strongest signal. I'm not sure what it was, but the ones I got from Intel seem to be more "stable." I haven't tried the wired network drivers out yet, though. I just installed them because they were the latest. The last thing I wanted was to go somewhere and hook up my laptop only to find out I had a driver issue or bug due to old drivers. New drivers aren't necessarily the answer but it does feel nice knowing you have the latest ones with fixes for bugs that others have complained about.
-
Man thank you! i no longer have that problem. Everything is butter right now. No more lag !! -
Nevermind,... i think its back. It just happenned.
Not a big deal. Im just kinda curious.
-
The less you obsess about it the faster it will come... though the anticipation is usually better than the having... so enjoy the waiting unless it drives you totally nuts.
-
Tell me about it, I just don't buy laptops that often. Out for delivery right now, I have to say I'm pretty damn impressed with UPS -- a 10lb box left Shanghai, China on friday and is showing up on my doorstep in Colorado on monday morning.
-
Wow, that is impressive. I dont know why I had to wait a week to receive mine with 2 day delivery, actaully Im still waiting since I missed the delivery at 925 this morning. They usually deliver to me around noon, sad thing is I was home the whole time. Im trying to reschedual a delivery right now.
-
For those of you who installed SSDs, did you go 2.5 or 1.8? Can you do either?
-
Laptop drives are 2.5" @ 9mm high, so that's the biggest size you can use. I would guess that a 2.5" SSD is cheaper than a 1.8" one, but the 1.8" would fit with an adapter kit that makes it fit in 2.5" slots. The kit would come with the 1.8" drive or be a separate purchase; it's not something you'd get from Lenovo.
There's probably no reason to get a 1.8" drive unless you can get a really good deal on it. -
I got my W510 today, pretty nice. Ive been downloading updates and messing around with it. I havent done the BIOS, not sure if I need it or not
-
FW@zozo
ok guys I have figured that some machines do have problems and BSODS when certain memory type is in all 4 slots or two top slots under the keyboard.
I get occasional lockups and freezes especially when operating on battery and say running 3d like Google earth and or NASA world wind. both are causing lag on screen. and temps are in 60s so I cant blame it on that, only suspicion is the GFX throttling stupidity which no matter what can not be remedied only with BIOS?
I have two laptops and so I can tell you that chances are there are some bad boards as well or the new BIOS robbed us of something.
I wanted to attach small clicp to explain what happens but I'll use words.
when video played and something moves across the screen especially on plain background it starts to jitter like crazy Lenovo agreed to repair my lappy but I cant find time to send it off to them now.
all I can say is if you get problems in day one insist on replacement or return it and order new one you will save allot of time. I- WE shouldnt be wasting time on this bull...
P.S for those who don't know about Dual channel single channel my advise is to click on the service link below and see section "how to replace memory" as it explains how it works in this laptop.
after ordering 2 sticks by 4GB and placing them in dual channel mode I have no bsods at all but
lockups happened occasionally. -
Hey Everyone!
I currently have a W510 4318-CTO and had ordered it from lenovo with 4GB RAM (1DIMM) because getting another 4GB stick would cost me $300 more. I purchased a 4GB stick (same exact specs as the other stick) from Newegg for $100 and I am about to install it.
The question I have is which slot would be best to instal it in? There is a Slot 0 and a Slot 1 under the keyboard and a Slot 0 and a Slot 1 on the bottom of the laptop. My current factory 4GB stick is located in Slot 0 under the keyboard. Should I be installing the RAM in Slot 1 underneath the keyboard or Slot 0 on the bottom?
Thanks! -
Knocking on wood, but I have not had any BSODs on my system. This includes while I ran it with the original 4GB of ram with the 32 bit OS it shipped with. I later had it formatted and installed 64 bit OS. I then added my ram and still no BSODs. Hope they sort your system out and if I see this occur in the future I will post up. Good luck finding resolution.

+1. No, not fixed yet.

Hello!
I have squeezed my T61 for last three years, but it seems to die soon due to fan problem. Although I still have warranty for my T61, I decided to jump into a new laptop, W510. I ordered a W510 with 2 DIMM 4 Gb option (2GB * 2) of lower speed (1066) becuase I thought higher speed and 1 dimm option is too expensive. However, I need more RAM so possibly additional 4GB RAM will be added to my W510 for now, but I am going to add more RAM (probably 16GB) later. My question is it is possible to use single DIMM 1333 4GB RAM with two 1066 2GB DIMMS? If it is possible, I can save some money for later upgrade.
Thank you for your help in advance! -
