Crap!
It looks like they took away one of my favorite features for Lenovo: the ability to adjust when I start recharging the battery.
How can we convince them to bring it back?

From this thread, it appears that the T510 supports audio over the displayport interface. Could someone who has received their W510 confirm if this is also the case?
-
I canceled the W510 order. Lenovo's not being very transparent (or organized) about the stock situation, so I decided to wait until production is shored up before committing to a next-generation notebook. If the timeframe on the FHD model is indeed 1-2 months, I'd rather wait and compare the specs to the Owner Made VAIO Z (which, like it or not, has similar specs to the W510), that should be released here in Japan by then.

I would like to know if this laptop has the throttle's issue like other i7's laptops.
Dell has already come up with a solution, AC 130W + New Bios.
I dont know this one though -
-
Hoping new drivers will bump it up a bit.
-
Any news on multi touch FHDs?
-
Lenovo now says they should have an update on the non-multi touch FHD monitor by the end of the week or early next week.
-
I got two FHD but 720QM
sweet life ,and off course im sorry (not really
)
-
Yeah, it's weird I ended up having to cancel as the order could not be fulfilled. Sounds like the rep was going by what she saw on her computer and concluded the screen was no longer available. In any event my order had not been submitted to production, so it's doubtful I would have received it even if I waited longer.
I think I'll reorder whenever the FHD screen is offered again. After all, what else am I going to do with the dock that I received weeks ago. -
Per UPS, my w510 will be at my door today. I never got a call from anyone regarding the FHD I ordered, So I'm assuming it'll be equiped with the non-multi touch version (which is wierd b/c I ordered my laptop on the 25th of January. Canada though)
-
-
Well my order is now "Block" on the website... That would mean blocked ?
I guess I'll call them if I don't get an answer by email... -
Hello all,
I have an HP dv7t Quad, which has an i7 720QM processor. When on battery, the turbo can kick in up to the max (2.8 GHz).
On a 90W adapter, turbo will not kick in. On a 120W adapter, turbo will kick in and allow the max again.
I am also probably getting a W510 and I will likely stick with the 720QM. I have seen the question here a few times, but no one seems to know for sure. Will the 720 ratchet up under battery power?
I just got the config from our PC dealer, so I may have some other questions....
Thanks,

The gentleman that bought my W500 brought it back for me to take a look at (and to work on his netbook, which used to be my netbook).
So, I took that opportunity to grab some pics.
Colors are much brighter; setting 11 seems to be about equal to the W500's max brightness.
I'm still trying to get used to the colors...the green has almost a candy-green like appearance. I'm not sure if it needs calibrated, or if I'm just used to the 60% gamut screen (or whatever) I had before, and that other 35% is throwing me off; I'll see what happens when I get the Dell U2410. -
so nobody knows what's happening with the Mutil touch FHD? How come none of them has been shipped?
-
So the W510 is smaller but a little thicker? I'm going to miss having to go from 1200 to 1080...that kinda sucks. I like the edges on the new one though and the port layout looks find. Thanks for posting the pics!!
Can you tell a noticeable difference in weight? -
NecessaryEvil Notebook Evangelist
It's a wash for the most part.
Officially, the W510 is just .18lbs lighter...I don't think I would really be able to notice it in day to day use. That weight is CERTAINLY offset by the increased size of the AC adapter though!
In all honesty, the pictures show more of a difference than I notice while using the laptop. If it weren't for the design changes and the thicker speaker area on the side of the W510, I'd be hard pressed to notice a real difference. I'm also coming from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080, which likely makes this transition easier.
Closed, they're about the same thickness, as the lid is thinner on the W510, which seems to be just about enough to compensate for the thicker keyboard area. I definitely prefer how the W510's palmrest feels. Much more solid thanks to the redesign.
Also, if any of you guys have a calibrated profile, any chance you could share it? I'm curious to see what the color calibrator changes...any suggestions for a non-integrated one I should look at? I thought about getting it integrated, but figured I'd be better off in the long run getting one I could use on multiple monitors. -
The multirouch FHD's have not shipped yet. There are no reports of them being delayed or culled as in the case of the normal FHD screens.
NecessaryEvil - best photos I've seen. Many thanks and great comparison angles. They should give those familiar with the older Lenovo lines some real perspective. -
Thank you for pictures. this is very informative never had opportunity to handle W500. -

Can anyone tell me how much space was used on their HD before they started installing programs? I am trying to decide if I can use the 128gb Samsung SSD or need to upgrade to the 160gb Intel.
Thanks! -

as I can see they use CL7 Elpida (Kingston mem uses same chips) so I would expect it to work the same. sadly looks like we are left only with 1333 max, lowest I found is CL7

Im about to buy the 160GB Intel X25-M G2 Solid State Hard Drive (260MB/s read, 90MB/s write, TRIM), But wondering why the write speed is too slow?
Should I go with 120GB OCZ Vertex Series Solid State Drive (246MB/s read, 204MB/s write, TRIM) with saving me $50? -
here's screen-shots for CPU and Audio

Folks,
I got my W510 yesterday, but I have been getting blue screens of death from the very first boot up.I can't even enter into Windows except for Safe Mode.
Any idea what could be the problem? -
is it FHD? if not just return/replace.
-
Could anyone with a W510/FX880 check the frequencies/voltages of the GPU core and memory?
I'm particularly interested in what range those are (min and max power setting, should scale w/o user intervention).
TIA -

Not sure if this was posted already in the thread...
http://blogs.technet.com/keithcombs/archive/2010/02/07/lenovo-thinkpad-w510-first-impressions.aspx
Just some initial impressions of the unit....overall very positive reviews... -
Ah here: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/. That should do it. -
Is there any way to tell if the power adapter is plugged in by looking at the keyboard or the indicators on the inside of the monitor?
-
My ship date for my W510 with FHD Multi-touch just went from 2/9 to 3/10.
-
Dell has also pulled their high gamut screen from their configuration page. Maybe since more companies are offering them now there is a shortage?
-
-
They really look like great machines.
I just checked the Windows Experience rating on a 1 month old Dell T3500 desktop workstation.. (Quadro FX3800, 6GB RAM, W7 64-bit)
Processor 7.3
RAM 7.7
Graphics 6.9
Gaming Graphics 6.9
Disk 5.9
Almost identical to the W510 from what others have been posting. That's amazing in a laptop (and much cheaper then these T3500's)!.
I hope to order one soon. Thanks to all for the pics.

Hi everyone. I currently have a HP Envy 15, and am still debating whether to send it back or not, and the W510 is a possibility. My main complaint is battery life, and that it throttles the processor when on battery power. How long is the 9-cell battery typically lasting on a Core i7 720QM W510s? Does it run hot and does it throttle when you go to battery power (i.e. run at 900 MHz)? Any prevalent issues seen thus far. Lenovo has a good reputation so I'm definitely curious, especially since they now come with USB 3.0 ports too.
-
W00t, finally got my W510 ... though I'm not really liking the 16:9 but that's pretty minor.
-
Lenovo updated the order status for my FHD-Multi today.
Went from 2/16 ro 3/3.
I am not pleased. -
Does anybody else with the HD+ screen feel like it's miscalibrated?
Comparing it to my old laptop (which might be too yellow, if the W510 is fine), it seems like the W510 has a greenish-blue hint to stuff.
It's most obvious to me in the little folder icons in the Start -> All Programs menu, on the W510 they look light-green/yellow instead of just yellow. -
I have the HD+
Nothing seems wrong to me. Did what you said but its all normal -
What do you guys think of the 1920x1080 res on a 15.6" screen?
Are there other resolutions that work well that may make it a bit easier to read stuff on? Is not using the native res going to be ok when I don't need it?
I am considering the W510 for work. Our vendor is offering this for $1689. It seems like a good price when I check the website.

My W510 showed up today!!
I LOVE the keyboard - it's nicer than any desktop keyboard I've used recently (save my old-school IBM buckling spring one but that's another story)...
Having a bit of a hard time getting Linux to play nicely with all the new hardware but the basics work - I'm typing this on it. As typical with new hardware suspend isn't working properly, and it doesn't look like turbo boost is quite working right (the CPU scales up and down but won't go over the rated speed). I'm sure it'll all get worked out over the next few weeks as others get their hands on their laptops though! -
What distribution of Linux are you using?
And what kernel?
I'm planning on throwing Ubuntu on mine and then beating my head into a wall after inevitably having hardware problems. -
cheers -
@d3mia7
Have you tried
http://computing-intensive.blogspot.com/2009/09/how-to-make-turbo-boost-work-under.html ?
Cause if that turbo boost doesn't work those CPUs are quite lame, so I'd consider that important.
