    Thank you Thor!

It appears as though the Quadro 2000M outscores the GT 555M found in the new Dell XPS by about 100 points in 3DMark 2011.

I'm assuming this is due to the low resolution the benchmark is run at (1280 x 720) and I assume the GT 555M may pull ahead at higher resolutions due to it haveing a higher memory bandwidth. At which resolution and by how much though I'm not exactly sure...

Either way, for those wondering the Quadro 2000M appears to be a capable card for playing the occasional game.

I presume you ran 3DMark 11 in Optimus mode. It sure looks like they are somehow not playing along well together. The 1414 score is exactly in the Intel HD3000 range unless I am mistaken.

Scratch that. I mixed up 3Dmark 11 and 3Dmark Vantage.

Incorrect presumption. BIOS set to discrete. I was however using the power source optimized power plan.

Setting the power plan to max performance bumped the 3DMark06 score a little higher. See Result. The 3DMark 11 score remained the same.

This result is great. I want to buy a business notebook with high graphic power. As thinkpad's were falling behind in that respect since the t510, I was sure this quadro 2000 will not be a real upgrade to quadro 1800 w510 had.

I heard that quadro's being much worse in games then geforce's which they are based on. And I fear optimus, as I read many horror stories (bsod's, game's not starting, game's only using intel hd)

Did anyone tried games on w520, is there any problems? I play mostly coh, total war series, real time and turn based strategy.

I do know that I throw out money in the window with profesional gpu's for gaming... But I want to use only 1 notebook for work and gaming. Beside workstations no one sells high power gpu's with a conservative look. I will not use a gaming rig for work ...

    Hey Thors.Hammer,

This looks pretty good for a business class laptop/graphics. It's about the same as GT555M on Dell XPS 17 ( NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M - Notebookcheck.net Tech ) and its about the same what, I guess, we can expect from the incoming Alienware M14x. For a non-gaming laptop you can't complain there. :)

Is the general recommendation to order via phone or online? I talked to a phone rep who promised to call me back after we talked for awhile and I asked some questions on pricing breaks. Haven't heard back since, emailed him, nothing. Do I just call back and talk to someone else? Or is the internet ordering process seamless enough? Any general advice?

I do not know why there is not a touch screen, personally I do not like the touchscreen on a normal laptop. I can see why it does not have Window 7 Ultimate, probably because it is a business laptop.

Wow, I just re-read the beginning of my earlier post and realized I sound like an %&# and I apologize if I offended you. I did not mean to as I was confused and was just wondering. Sorry again if I did.

Also, for the SSD, i suggest you add a new thread or ask it in this, many will be willing to help.

    Good luck

Nope, sorry. Last time I ordered from Lenovo, the computer sat in Kentucky for about 3-5 days. =(

Should we separate this thread into 2?

One for actual discussion of the W520 and one for shipping?

Hopefully a mod can handle that.

It is getting hard to get to content because of all the shipping discussion.

Sorry, but for those who have recieved their W520, did it come in a box or a box within a box? (did they change it?) Just wondering because earlier, I ordered a laptop and it only came in a single box and it was really banged up (dents and had a small hole in it).

$1,773.73 before tax and shipping ($1809.26 total). **EDIT: Sorry for the typo: $1909.26 total.**

I stuck with the i7-2720QM because it is the sweet spot in terms of bang-for-your-buck. Plus, I can always upgrade later if I really get the urge to do so. Unfortunately, judging from the repair manual, the video card isn't swappable otherwise I would have stuck with the Quadro 1000M.

I'll put in three 4gig DIMMs (total 16gigs of RAM) and an Intel X-25M 160GB SDD I have sitting here when the system arrives. I'm told it'll ship in 4/20. :)

I tried looking for the UJ260 and turned up nothing. Could you post a link? I did find the Panasonic UJ-242A which seems to have a bezel that may fit in the W520. I've seen the price as low at $229. I don't see myself burning too many BD-R/BD-REs with hard drive prices so low (Hitachi 2TB 5K3000 HDD is $69 at a local store) so this is a vanity item for me.

LOL! $1909.26 not $1809.26. My mistake.

    Just a comment on your signature. The screen for your On-Order W520 is 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) LED, not 15.4" 1920x1200 R G BLED. :)

    Lenovo's 1920x1200 R G BLED (100% color gamut) screen is only available for W701(W701ds).

I called Lenovo today. I configured the system on the phone with a 1 year onsite warranty and gave her the ECOUPONS10 coupon code. I then asked if they could sweeten the deal at all. She dropped the price and threw in the the 3 year warranty and TPP. The lady I spoke to said that if I had any friends that wanted the same deal that I could share her info. If that's the case then just shoot me a PM and I'll send it over.

Hello guys this is my first post. Do you guys think this is a good notebook for photoshop and illustrator work or would this be a overkill. If so what configuration should I get regarding the processor, ram and the GPU? Thanks is advance.

Depends. If your not doing much 3d work, or any at all, then it might be worthwhile to go with the T series. What exactly are you looking for a in a laptop? A nice screen? Portability?

Keep in mind ThinkPad's tend to be on the expensive side, but from what i've been hearing, they are worth every penny :)

On the website the config was $2338.00 without any coupons, taxes, or shipping ($2139.10 with ECOUPONS10 coupon code without taxes or shipping). I paid $1,773.73 without taxes and shipping. The savings was $564.27 (or $365.37 with the coupon code) just for calling in and being cordial with the sales rep.

Hi hrana - I just came across this thread and have now registered on the forum, but can't seem to find the PM button to ask for the details of the Lenovo rep you spoke to. Can you please PM me with the details? Much appreciated.

To PM someone, click on their name to see a detailed profile of the person on the forums. You should see a PM link in there.

Anyone know a good dock/port replicators for the W520? I just need something with usbs and some form of digital display out (HDMI or Display port). I really want the lenovo dock but it's a bit too expensive (I envy the person who managed to get it for free with their system). Any suggestions?

I dont do any 3d work. My laptop is a couple year old c2d and i wanted to jump on the sandy bridge train. Portability is not an issue but I would like to get a nice screen as I do a lot of prints in high volume. I would also like the laptop to serve me for couple of years.

If you haven't ordered your laptop already, the sales rep is usually qualified to throw it in for free if you order it over the phone. It worked for my 520, and a friend of mine secured the X61 and X200 ultrabases this way too.
