How many people have sent their computers to Lenovo under warranty for repairs only to find that Lenovo will NOT repair the computer for free?

I'm wondering because I'm about to send in my dead IdeaPad and I'm afraid that Lenovo will not repair it for free even though it is under warranty because it has signs of physical wear. I didn't abuse it; I just used it a lot. E.g. the keyboard is really worn out and one of the hinges is cracked slightly. The reason I'm sending it in though has nothing to do with the keyboard or the hinge.

If it has nothing to do with the physical wear (which they won't usually repair), then you should be fine. The only time when they would refuse repair is if the physical damage clearly caused the problem (ie, physical damage visible on a nonfunctional motherboard), or if there is water damage to the internals.

The problem is that the computer just won't turn on anymore.

I was using it when it suddenly turned off. All right, it might have been a rouge Windows update. I hit the power button, it boots, and I make it to the desktop. Then, the computer suddenly goes into sleep mode (screen fades; power light starts blinking). Then, the computer wakes again and make it to the desktop. Then, it sleeps again. Over, and over, for about 2 minutes, until I force it off by holding the power button.

After that, the machine hasn't started up again. Holding the power button might cause it to light up for a few seconds every now and then, but that's about it. The power button will light up for a few seconds and then everything will go dead again. Basically: it's dead.

I just told the guy on the phone that my computer wouldn't turn on to simplify matters (I had been put on hold for about 20 minutes before reaching him and the call center was REALLY loud - I could hear others and he kept asking me to speak up).

A few questions: how would Lenovo know about water damage? Rust? And I have a feeling that perhaps the power switch is worn out or defective - thus the constant computer going into sleep and waking again loop (I programmed Windows to sleep if the power button is hit). Is the power button on a lenovo B575 easily user-serviceable? I use the power button extensively to put the computer to sleep so perhaps the constant strain of use has worn out the power button.
