So I was just looking at the thinkpads and when I got to the warranty section, I was pretty confused.

    a) What does it mean when it says "ThinkPlus 4 Year EasyServ Total for 3 Year EasyServ ThinkPad [add $109.00]"
    b) "ThinkPlus 2 Year EasyServ Total for 1 Year EasyServ ThinkPad [add $129.00]"

Could someone break it down for me? What is this 4 year EasyServ for 3 Year EasyServ ThinkPad and why is it cheaper than 2 Year EasyServ for 1 Year EasyServ ThinkPad?

    Thanks.

    Take a?

I dunno, it seems to be the same plan. Maybe a discount or some kind of sale?

i actually talked to a representative for this... i didnt understand at first because on the candian website it was 4 years for 3 years for 89$ verus 2 years for 1 years for 130$.

It's actually the same kind of warranty, except the 4 years is for 4 years as you could have guessed. The representative told me he didnt understand very well why it was cheaper but he said it was probably a kind of promotion... so i went with the 4 years warranty for 89$ :D

It is straightforward to me, but if the sales rep got confused it could use some clarification.

This option is for upgrading your existing 3 year depot warranty to 4 year depot warranty.

This option is for extending your existing 1 year depot warranty to 2 year depot warranty.

Your choice should be based on your existing warranty coverage.

Lenovo's actuary probably figured the actual cost for providing warranty coverage in the 4th year is less than the 2nd year so they priced it less. By the 4th year, the computer itself will be quite a bit behind the technology curve, such that users will be more compelled to replace the computer than to repair it.

Oh wow, I don't know why they wouldn't advertise that tho. 4 year warranty for ~$100 is an AWESOME deal. But I still don't get the wording, "4 years for 3 years"? "2 years for 1 year" ?

Ok, I think this my help, and I have not confirmed any of this information yet, but...

When you are on the Lenovo site and you are about to customize your options, at the top of the screen right underneath "(1) System Components..." It will specify which laptop you are buying and beside that will give a model number. (In my case it said "ThinkPad T61 15" Wide 6459")

So, looking up "6459" in the .pdf below, it shows that my machine has a 3 year base warranty!?!

SO, this means, to add another year it will cost 89.00?

Take a look for yourself on the .pdf for Canada, Feb 11, 2008.

My guess is that they come to your house and try to fix it for you. Not too sure about the "overnight", maybe that means "next day"? and I'm also guessing 9x5 means 9AM-5PM service?

I had the exact same question. I figured the answer must be what msb0b posted:

From what I understand customized models always come with 1 year bas warranty. If you buy a pre-configured model through a retailer it may come with a 3 year base warranty.

What I don't get though is that you get the option

"ThinkPlus 4 Year EasyServ Total for 3 Year EasyServ ThinkPad [add $109.00]"

for a customized model with a 1 year base warranty on the Canadian Lenovo website. That doesn't make sense....

I ordered my T61 without any extended warranty. I will probably add some once I got it. It should be easy to find out then which extended warranty options I actually have.

Ok.... so i called lenovo sales and spoke with a rep about my order, he told me that the warranty part on the Canadian site is messed up right now and the "ThinkPlus 4 Year EasyServ Total for 3 Year EasyServ ThinkPad [add $109.00]" option is not supposed to be offered for that laptop. he said that when the order goes through the warranty department, it will get rejected and i would be credited for the $109.

So my options now are to:
    a) let the warranty get rejected, keep 1-year base warranty, get $109 credit.

    or

    b) have the rep cancel my current warranty order, and re-do it properly. (which is what i am doing now)

I told him i wanted a 3-year depot, which would cost $209 ($177 through visa). So now i will be credited the $109 first, then be charged the $177.

So i suggest to anyone who purchased an extended warranty in Canada to call lenovo and speak with a sales rep to get your order sorted out sooner, rather than later.

P.S. He also said that the site should've been updated today, but I checked and it wasn't.

P.P.S. I think the guy I spoke to was on the same continent as me and was not reading from a book, so you shouldn't dread making the call, but I was put on hold for a while, while he made the changes.

Ohh, so a custom built T61p only has 1 year base warranty? UGH! It would've been so nice if what you said previously was true (the 3 year base warranty). Oh well...
